    Comparing MLS to CFL

Obviously the CFL and MLS are both minor league operations.

If one assumes that the NFL is the highest caliber football league in the world and that EPL is the highest caliber soccer league, would you say that the CFL is closer to the NFL in terms of quality than MLS is to EPL or is MLS closer to EPL than CFL is to NFL.

I would say that The MLS is closer to The EPL more-so than the The CFL is to The NFL. The MLS has a lot of washed up stars that played at the highest level as opposed to The CFL which is almost all NFL rejects.

One parameter to look at would be, how many players from the CFL get picked up by NFL teams and how many MLS players go to EPL.

The EPL has the money but in terms of quality, La Liga and the Bundesliga are superior. With Brexit looming, that may not last.

More North American soccer players play in Europe than CFL players in the NFL. the highest profile player is American Christian Pulisic who plays for Borussia Dortmund. Canada's best defender Atiba Hutchinson, has spent most of his career in Europe, he currently plays for Besiktas of Istanbul.

The NFL is the "best" football league in the world.
The CFL is the 2nd "best" football league in the world.

EPL is the "best" soccer league in the world
MLS is about 12-14th "best" soccer league in the world.

The thing about NFL vs. CFL is that there are players in the NFL that couldn't play, or play very well, in the CFL.
Obviously, the same is true on the flip side.

That's kinda the way I'm thinking.

I think more CFL players are close to NFL caliber than MLS to EPL.

    ?!?!?!?!??

The EPL charges exorbitant television rights in order to pay for the players needed so they can pitifully hope to remain competitive with the Bundesliga and La Liga which are by far superior to the EPL.

Within the last 10 seasons, the UCL has been won only twice by EPL clubs whilst it has been won 5 times by La Liga clubs.

MLS has no sort of ranking as it doesn't have enough developed history. It's within its painful infancy stages. Presently, it's entertainment at best and aspires to Sport.

The NFL is the "best" league simply because its the ONLY league. Of course you're number 1 when you're the only one.

Absolutely no one cares enough about the CFL in order for it to matter. It's only a footnote.

yep I know the game is not the same, but most NFL cuts cant make it in the CFL.

as for the MLS, not knowing much of soccer, I kinda guessing most EPL cuts can make it in the MLS.

EPL may not have the very best team in Europe each year but it is quite possible that the depth of talent is better and more spread among the 20 teams out as opposed to a lot of talent being concentrated in two or three great teams as in Spain or Germany.

Thank you for stating the obvious regarding the NFL.

However, you seemed to miss the point of the question which was comparing the quality of players in the CFL in relation to the NFL and comparing that to soccer. Your post dealt more with deciding which was the "best" league in each sport.

Seeing as you admittedly care nothing about the CFL and you obviously don't watch it, it is fair to surmise that you don't know enough about it to give a knowledgeable opinion on the original question. As such, your opinion is at best a footnote.

To put it modestly, the CFL is a bush league.

The EPL isn't very good at developing players, the market is geared toward expensive foreigners. The top two teams (Manchester City, Chelsea) are blood money clubs. Big Oil controls ManC and Putin's agent owns the London club. Spain and Germany are powerhouses in International competitions while England loses to Iceland.

The possibility doesn't exist. That's the whole point.

The depth of talent isn't more spread out amongst the 20 EPL clubs. There are NO British players in Serie A, La Liga or Bundesliga. Meanwhile, the EPL is vastly full of foreign players and not just from Italy and Spain. It shows clearly and plainly that the youth development system in Spain and Germany is by far superior to England's with each club in both those countries having first choice on their own players. English football as a whole is in decline hence the desperation to buy foreign players and it still doesn't make the EPL a powerhouse.

If you take out the 4 UCL spots in England, Spain and Germany and have the remaining 16 teams play each other, the Spanish and German clubs would defeat the EPL clubs with greater ease than Liga and Bundesliga teams playing each other.

It's only fitting that a footnote regarding a footnote should go together.

English football is definitely in decline. They only won the Under 17 World Cup, the Under 20 World Cup, the Under 19 European Championship and made it to the semi-finals only to lose to Germany on penalties in the Under 21 European Championship. They need help in their youth program - NOT.

Finally the FA is putting greed aside to develop more talent at the grass roots, it's a long time coming.

I lobbied the management of BMO Field for an English - Italian soccer friendly: Scunthorpe vs Pistoiese... they never called back

A pair of footnotes, a left and right. I like it.

+1 my comments exactly... this past year has been great for the youth academy.

I would also like to mention it was the English who created the transfer market and now suffer from it same as other markets feel the pinch ... that is the main reason why English players don't play abroad... the second reason is that many markets prefer to be homegrown... the third is that talent transfer that comes from other countries farm systems that they can implement into their systems. Last is many players just suck for the pay.

IMO ... no comparison of CFL to NFL and MLS to EPL.

Btw... my definition of British includes Wales, so Garreth Bale would qualify and last time I checked he played for Real Madrid in La Liga.

Most CFL player's are NFL cuts, there's obviously not room for them all.
