I'm thinking of buying a Kodi or IPTV box.
Does anyone have any good advice on which one is best???

You get a good Android box loaded with the latest of either. Then you can add on what you want.

The boxes are actually computers. Just in a different format.

I have one with Kodi and added a program called Modbro that gives you thousands of stations.

You don't need to spend more than 40-50 bucks. I also added a mini keyboard/mouse. It was my geek buddy who put it all together for i think about 50.

Get a geek friend to do yours. And get ready to cancel your cable.

You can get an antenna depending where you are and that can get you 24 channels including US for free. The difference is that the kodi box streaming is free. The Iptv you have to pay a monthly fee and it presents you with many more channels than cable, my understanding is that the quality of iptv is better than kodi...(20-30 bucks a month)

The prices went up a bit, they keep updating kodi requiring it to have a higher version of android and some boxes hardware can't handle it anymore. My buddy has a mygica that couldn't handle the newer versions of android and they did make a kodi 17 for those machines..but I betcha 18 will require more power.

How is your mobdro? I get a lot of buffering with news channels like Cnn or Fox, even the movies some time suck big time they buffer a lot. Sometimes if I'm lucky with sports I may get a good channel, but I don't find it very reliable and I don't know if its my box or mobdro...

Just looked it up its called 'Mobdro' and it looks great - thanks B1000.

I'm not sure about the $50 -$60 spec boxes but I'm happy with my ~ $130 MyGica ATV1910 Android 5.1 Quad Core Powered TV Box with HDMI 2.0. from Canada Computer. It has the latest Kodi which I added a NoLimits build (free software that puts enhanced menus with graphics). It comes with a remote with flip side QWERTY keyboard, Netflix, Youtube, Chrome and a 4K video player. iT IS Basically turning your TV into a smart Android TV so you can load whatever software you find on Google Play or the internet. I also loaded Show Box - another free source for recorded TV & Movie streaming.

I have no cable and a local antenna (seldom used) to pick up broadcast signals. When Rogers hit $88 / month I told them to go screw themselves. I can't justify $1,000 + a year for occasional TV.

What Android do you have on your machine? Did you need to update it?

I figure 50 bucks every two years to replace is fine. Doesnt take long to get the programming back to snuff.

Mobdro does have occasional buffering issues and lost signals. So be it for free tv. I love the show stations where they continuously show one show commercial free. Used it for 66 Batman. South park etc.

And in other I found Bikini Kitchen. Yep its a cooking show with a couple of chicks in bikinis.

I like CNN international as well.

But no it isn't the box. There just isn't a magic bullet for live tv yet. But it keeps getting better.

Ok you don't have a problem a handling Kodi 17 ....my buddy had android 4.4 an the box can't handle 5 so he had to get kodi 17 Fork. I guess by updating the software they get you to buy new boxes.

Yep. Decent looking Polynesian type does the cooking and a 38DD Louisiana blonde does drink recipes.

No different then phones and computers. Memory and power double every two years. So why go top of the line. I just upgrade and replace.

Why buy an Android box? KODI is free and available on a number of platforms. I have it running on my laptop and Android phone. There are a huge number of videos on Youtube explaining how to set up your KODI device. A few hours of investment saved me a lot of $$ and I have the flexibility to set it up as I want, not as someone has determined for me.

Convenience mainly. The boxes are tiny and have remotes. So no need to set up every time. I do have Kodi on my laptop as well. But this way when I'm not there the SO can use it.

I don't use the skins either. Mine us set up for me.

On the laptop you can't use live TV android apps, U have to download an android simulator. I tried once to download stacks or something and it downloaded a whole bunch of games and stuff which I didn't want. I also like the remote, I point to the box which is under the TV and flip channels like the old days...

Yeah but dont you get fed up with the repositories going down? Kodi went downhill for me once Genesis kicked the bucket. Specto and Covenant were good for awhile before they went belly up...
