SAD! NFL Stadiums Virtually Empty During Week 11 Of Kneeling Backlash

NFL stadium-crickets are getting a workout during week 11 of a massive boycott by fans turned off by players refusing to kneel during the National Anthem.

The kneeling started 18 months ago when now-unemployed former 49’ers QB Colin Kaepernick’s refused to stand during the anthem – stating “I am not going to stand up to show pride in a flag for a country that oppresses black people, and people of color.”

“To me, this is bigger than football, and it would be selfish on my part to look the other way. There are bodies in the street, and people getting paid leave, and getting away with murder.”

After President Trump commented in September that NFL players should be fired for kneeling during the national anthem, it sparked a nation-wide kneeling phenomenon across the league.

Aaaaand now stadiums are virtually empty…

Pissed off patriotic fans across the nation have responded to the kneeling controversy by simply not giving the NFL money.

“Wow. I have never seen this many empty seats here before. John Mara must be thrilled. #GiantsPride,” tweeted Giants fan Kevin McCleerey.

Minutes before kickoff, the New York Giants’ official Twitter account tweeted footage of a very empty stadium.

In Cleveland, it was the same story

Indeed, the entire NFL seems to have that empty feeling

Got a feeling there will be a lot of #Lions blue in the stands at Soldier Field the other color is the empty seats. #Bears are 3-6 pic.twitter.com/Et7LeQwG3n

Photos of empty seats at NFL games goes viral!

Photos of the early NFL games show a bevy of empty seats at some stadiums.
Namely, for New York Giants game at Metlife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, there were numerous empty seats spotted. The picture was shot 15 minutes before kickoff.

SAD!

Another right winger falls for fake news.

Through ten weeks of the 2017 season, the average attendance at NFL games is actually up slightly, from 68,914 per game in 2016 to 69,264 per game this season. In addition, while the home stadiums fluctuate each week, there is no obvious sign that attendance has dropped since the start of the season. In fact, the NFL had its highest average attendance of the season in Week 9 (continued below).

I'm not buying this at all. Even the bottom dweller teams will pack the stadiums. They're all just pics before game time. Once the games started, I'm sure all the stadiums were full.

Tickets were already bought in beginning of the season!

While this looks like good news for the NFL on the surface, there are reasons to be skeptical.

First and foremost, the NFL is driven by season-ticket sales and tickets purchased prior to the start of the season. That suggests that attendance this season was not impacted by players kneeling during the 2016 season. However, it doesn't tell us if ticket sales will be hurt as a result of the growing criticism this season, especially from President Donald Trump. The true impact of the backlash this season won't be felt until the 2018 season, if at all.

The other issue to keep in mind is that attendance figures do not necessarily tell us how many people actually attended the games. Since 2005, the NFL has encouraged teams to report "tickets distributed" as opposed to the actual number of fans that pass through the turnstiles. Tickets distributed includes tickets sold and tickets given away (e.g. charity donations).

That's why we can have a game in San Francisco with a reported "attendance" of 70,000 and the stadium still looks half empty.

The NFL can fudge the numbers this season. But they won't be able to fudge as much next season if ticket sales drop

PS . I firmly believe that people who already bought the NFL tickets at the beginning of the season are not going to the game!

AND IT NOT fake news! Typicaly leftie like you when things don't go your way ...you labels it as fake news!

Who gives a flying f#$% if the seats are empty. Because privileged whites want to boycott their beloved football in lieu of coming to terms with racial inequities is more of a statement of them than the players.

How can you attribute empty seats solely to the national anthem issues? Giants and Jets aren't exactly classy teams, they suck hardcore so I would think you'd have to also take that into account, as well as other factors.

The article is just coming to it's own conclusions.

There is far less impact in the BLUE states but it's still obvious there are a lot of empty seats.

Politics should never ever have been brought into sports and the NFL and ESPN really should address that.

Agree that Trump should never have involved politics in sports as he will be killing off some of the jobs.
A number of restaurants, street vendors, pubs etc benefit from the NFL games. If as the right wingies claim that the number of fans are staying away then it affects those businesses who also thrive from these games.

Taking a knee as an expression of discontent, that is the most peaceful type of protest I can think of. The world is not lacking young angry men who are willing to take lives to express their discontent. The NFL loses some money, players lose some money, no one gets injured or loses their life. The NFL, players, and the fans will work something out. My suggestion is to stop playing the national anthem.

My Alaska cousin usually catches a Lions game when he visits his folks in Dearborn for Thanksgiving. This year he decided to come here for the CFL Eastern Final, instead.

Nothing to do with knees, though PA. There's no way to ask people who aren't there, why they aren't.

And he and his son had a great time at the game! Thanks for asking.

Fake news.

Take a pic at half time or near the end of the 4th Q or a blow out and you'll see empty seats.

The giants have a terrible record.

Most importantly interest in the nfl has been declining for years so to attribute this to kneeling is presumptuous.

Even with declining TV ratings it is still the most popular shows for its time slots. So you won't see advertisers jumping ship.

With League Pass, 4K TVs, and other streaming options you can stay at home and watch ANY game you want for a fraction of the price of food and admission to a live game.

Most NFL players majored in Physical Education or Underwater basket weaving and in most Division I programs on a 'you had better not fail a football player' basis.

It is no surprise that they believe that there is a limitless pile of money somewhere to continue paying them the type salaries they believe are their due, even if they behave in a manner deeply offensive to the vast majority of their fan base.

Considering how many will end up brain damaged or with screwed up bodies, maybe they deserve the cash.
