You still can get a ticket. Plus I still see a lineup of cars turning off Bathurst and King to get onto Adelaide. Some cars turn south on Bathurst to drive on Front Street. Getting a ticket on a Friday and the cop says have a nice weekend. :yell::mad:

Okay, so I live in the financial district and I took a quick drive out in my car, and this what I found out.
I turned right on King West at Spadina. The "cannot go straight signs" are still there at Peter street.
However when you get to John st. those same signs are gone.
You can drive straight to Simcoe st. and the "cannot go straight signs" are gone there also.
You then get to University and the signs are back (see 3 attached pics).

So why did they take the signs down on those streets but not the other ones??

They can't. The restaurant strip has been declared a Toronto heritage site, so it can't be touched:

It appears part of the pilot has been lifted, I just drove along King W. from Spadina all the way to University with no problems.
The pilot stays after University however
The designation will no doubt be removed once it's empty. The owners will say it's financially unfeasible to rent at the lower prices but they will keep the facings and flavor of the ground floors and put condos up above.

And it will get approved.

The city has made it so confusing for cars that when the pilot project was introduced, I just wound up avoiding that area all together. A shame really since there used to be some great restaurants that I loved down there.

Now, I’m just one guy, but I’ve chosen to vote with my dollars elsewhere and I know I’m not alone.

Leave it to the govt to fuck up a heritage area for the sake of faster (by 2 mins) street cars.

It would not have been a total win for transit voters over drivers, but I do not understand how the transit riders would not have been equally well off by just making the tracks a 'bus lane' from 7am to 7pm, and exclude cars from the tracks.

The anti-car crowd is well organized and are pretty much zealots.

But the developers will be richer for it all.

This is what I dont get, they're going through all this trouble just so a few commuters can get to work 2 minutes earlier.

Unless Butler1000 is right, and they've been eyeing the area for condo development all along, and this is just a way to get rid of the restaurants.
They've been partially successfull in that, some restaurants have gone belly up already

Think of the property tax base of 1000 + new condos, new condo offices, and two maybe three retail levels.

Add in the land transfer taxes, community development levy, and construction fees and such.

They will promise to keep the facing at street level for atmosphere. Watch.

Just like the University Theatre, and other properties.

I think you might be right. Fred Luk just closed both his restaurants (Red Tomato and Fred's Not Here).
This what he posted 7 weeks ago: http://redtomato.ca/

It's probably in the top 20 most valuable underdeveloped corners in Canada(Yonge St has several).

Some of the spaces have been closed for awhile now. They are just waiting for leases to end, or get prices out.

It wouldn't surprise me if the plans are sitting in an architect firms files right now.
