Jacques Cartier, right this way, put your coat up on the bed.
hey man, you've got a real bum eye for clothes.

Very sad day for Canada in general, Gordon Downie spoke for us.

Been working a ton for the last few weeks and finally this morning, I had a bit of time. Wandered over to the corner for breakfast and clicked on the CBC's webpage and saw the news.

My first reaction was, "oh no".

I guess I had been hoping, or perhaps more accurately, kidding myself that he would be around for at least a while. But life is frail and cancer is a monster and now Gord is gone. Hugely sad to hear this news. He was a part of this thing we call home.

I loved this Band! The song that always got me was Fully Completely. When I broke up with my first long time girlfriend she said much like the song " you're gonna miss me" . 53 is way too young.

Great memories of good friends and great times while the Hip played in the background. Feeling empty today... You moved a lot of us Gord. RIP

RIP Gord. You will be missed but you will always be with us through your music.
When I turned on the radio this morning and heard Hip songs being continuously played I Figured Gord had passed away. Then they announced it. Makes me feel sad because 2 years ago today I lost a very close friend to cancer.
Cancer is a horrible disease and I wish these people would hurry up and find a cure soon instead of thinking about how much money can be made for research and drugs.

Well, as someone who has lived over 30 some years in Gord`s hometown of Kingston, I can tell you the news today hit everyone pretty hard. Whether you were into the Hip or not, these guys put our `small town` on the national stage! The Hip have been such a huge part of this town for so long, it`s hard to imagine life without them. Thanks Gord for the music and memories. RIP.

Very sad. Glad to have had so many great times over the years with Gord.

If you haven’t heard the ‘Killer Whale Tank’ version from the Roxy bootleg, it’s a good listen. Gord at his Gordest.

I haven't felt this bummed out since Bowie. Not much getting done today, good a time as any to open that bottle of 25yo Ardbeg.

I need something to cheer me up.

The world lost a very talented man. His voice will forever be etched into the soundtrack of my youth.

RIP Gord. Thanks for the memories.

"If I die of vanity, promise me, promise me,
They bury me some place I don't want to be,
You'll dig me up and transport me, unceremoniously,
Away from the swollen city-breeze, garbage bag trees,
Whispers of disease and the acts of enormity
And lower me slowly, sadly and properly
Get Ry Cooder to sing my eulogy"

A perfect quote from Gord along with my favourite Hip tune.

I hope Cooder does sing his eulogy.

I never even heard of this person, till the final tour was being promoted, and the reason for it. Looking at his history, posted elsewhere, I still cannot see where he would be considered an "Icon". To his fans, he probably is. To others, I expect he is just someone, who got mentioned in the news, since that tour was announced. I went to you tube, to hear what he played, after his death. Not my type of music. I also think, our selfie PM, who was a fan, had something to do with his elevated status. He did do a few good things, but then so do many others, without the same recognition. Canadians care about others. He was just one, of many who do something to make it better.

To those who liked him, my condolences. No one should die early.
