I am not considering one, I am just curious on how people perceive Cadillac and Lincoln. I think people put Mercedes and BMW at the top of the luxury scale ( as a brand ), Lexus third on the list and Cadillac and Lincoln to be lesser than these three. The three brands I am considering are Lexus, Acura and Volvo. I find these cars just as luxurious as other luxury brands and the two Japanese brands have stellar reputations and reliability. I have also noticed long scratches on many Mercedes and BMW cars. I suspect people vandalize them because of jealousy. The other brands seem to have much less vandalism.

What is your opinion on Cadillac and Lincoln vs. Mercedes, BMW, Lexus, and Acura.

Look at it this way..who do you want to help retire. Somebody from Germany or sweden or japan,,,i prefer to help a Canadian retire is why i will choose cadillac or lincoln it all boils down to what country you want to help.

seems accurate except you forgot about audi, rangerover and probably some more. FWIW Volvo for me has always been "I am afraid of my wife" car.

No, I did not forget the other brands. I think they rank less than Mercedes, BMW, Lexus and above Cadillac and Lincoln. FYI - Did you know that Volvo is the most popular second car in wealthy European homes that have a High end luxury car. The Volvo is the rich mans grocery getter in Europe.

yes
The Volvo is the rich mans grocery getter in Europe.
The Volvo is the bad driver car in the US. Statistics show that people who are afraid to drive or have had multiple accidents gravitate to Volvos.

Of your three chosen brands I would recommend Lexus.

Prestige is irrelevant from the first time you bring the car into the shop. BMW and Mercedes especially the more expensive models are generally a good sign of a douchebag at the wheel.

GTA & Thereabouts...
"Everyone has a Mercedes, BMW or Audi"... Boring at this point as you see them everywhere.

Other than MB's AMG GTR, I prefer the looks of the Cadillac, Lincoln and Volvo better as they are more interesting.

Be an absolute boss and get yourself a Cobra Mustang... Respect from car guys and desire from the ladies.

Volvo / Audi are fugly cars (Euro just does not do it for me at all)

I'd much rather an American or Japanese brand

Amazing that people imagine they're judged by their choice of declining asset.

Toyota/Lexus built a reputation on quality and reliability and now will add some excitement to their product.

Ultimately, you need to decide why you buy a car. If you're a car guy then fuck what other people think and buy the car you like. If it's for image, lease any of the usual suspects and replace it every two or three years.

The comments on Volvo drivers is funny and true - but the new 90's are pretty nice (all 4 bangers but with twin forced induction they produce impressive power). I think you'll see Volvo on a lot of luxury car short lists for this year.

I think a gearhead, younger or older person, man or woman will give you all sorts of different answers. IF you like Lexus go for it. I think a good argument can be made for the quality of their cars. Personally I like the IS series but the ES doesn't do anything for me.

If you really want to get down to it where a car is assembled is one thing. But a lot of companies all buy parts from the same suppliers (e.g. Magna). And does it really matter is a person in Mexico, Canada, Japan, US or Germany assembled it? Aside from wages what differences does it make who is on the assembly line bolting on the seat?

The Lexus ES has its place. If you do not like the vanilla styling of the current one, there is a new one coming for 2019. It is expected to have considerably more aggressive styling.

This is the 600 HP electric Volvo expected in 2020.

I personally would not buy 'Murican, unless I was in the market for a pick-up truck. Maybe a Tesla, but the batteries are expensive to replace once they die.

As others have stated, depends on what your preferences are. Do you want a car you can daily drive and take to the track on weekends, or a comfortable highway cruiser? Maybe a summer-only convertible?

Buying a car based solely on prestige is probably not a wise move and car dealers love suc... errr, clients who don't do their research and pick cars due to their perceived "prestige".

The Lexus LS500 can be a daily driver, the new one for 2019 is expected to have all the goodies of the new 2019 LC sports car in a 4 door sedan.

Have a North American luxury, and a Mercedes...........both good. However, filling up at the gas pump big difference that hurts everytime!!!! The NA takes regular gas, the German top premium...usually a 15 cent a litre irritation everytime I fill up!

which particular models. they all have models from 40k to 100k.
For 100k, I would NEVER consider either a Cadillac or a Lincoln. Never. 50 to 65 maybe. I would need to compare what Cad and Linc offer in that bracket vs. my brands of choice

For 100k, an Ftype Jag please, or a Jaguar XJ if you want a sedan. (But I love Jag. Etype especially, but they are not day to day drivers.)

In the 60 to 70 range, BMW, Lexus GS, Audi, etc.

(I'm not a big fan of Mercedes. Never have been.)
