Shapeero makes an impact move

I just heard Donaldson say that contract talks have broken down between him and the Jays and he says that he will become a free agent at the end of the year.

Shapeero continues his game plan of "going for it". We may have underestimated the work this man can do.

Too old and too injury prone at this stage. Should have traded him prior to last season, while he was close to peak ROI. Now the best you can hope for is a few draft picks.

I still have faith in the new mgmt team. Short term may suffer while the old regime decisions are flushed out. The ideal scenario is where there is a continuous flow of talent from the minors year after year rather than the old model of build for a few years, contend, get old & over priced, then tear down.

lol. I think the jays will be quite active at this year's trading deadline...as sellers. We had three pretty fun years in a row...now it's to the back of the bus, again.

He needs a reality check that he's a 4th or 5th starter on most good teams
No, he's considerably better than that. But what was once charming about him having his "emotions out in the open" is now getting really, really old.

It's like having the pretty 17 year old high school head cheerleader on your baseball team, complete with drama, tears, rah-rah speeches, modelling shoots and non stop selfies.

Now we know that Donaldson and Stroman are both shit.

We need the second comings of George Brett and Sandy Koufax.

Agree. But I also think the same can be said of the Jays. Is it worth the possible ill-will of their opening day pitcher, for $400k?
Absolutely. Looks bad on both sides. They should have just met in the middle. It's Rogers being cheapskates. They have no interest in winning in the next 3-5 years which is why they brought in Shapeyero and Atkins in the 1st place. With all of their signings and acquisitions in the off season, some are good like Solarte, Diaz and Grichuk, they have done little to nothing of worthiness to address the bullpen. Axford, Breslow, Petricka...........really? Now they're going after Sueng Hwan Oh who failed a physical with the Rangers. Maybe they want to move Garcia to the bullpen which may not be a bad idea because we need another left arm in there. Plus he's not a durable starter.

I don't hold out much hope that the Jays will be competitive in the AL East in 2018. The Yankees, Sox and even Orioles are a notch above. Well at least we can beat up on the Rays who are in full mode tank mode.

Not much of a surprise with all the outfielders they have in camp. He did hit .282 last year but had just 20 RBIs. Defensively was pretty ordinary. Attitude was solid. Buffalo is a possibility.

The way you ask the question, you make the answer obvious!

Next time, ask "Of these 4, 3 were taken on the first round: which ones?" :biggrin1:
