I'm sure the stadium is a consideration. Some may like the fact during spring they play in a nice warm cozy dome that the Rogers Centre offers, while others still prefer to play in a more natural style ball park
Also a factor players look at is how homerun-friendly a stadium is.

Or if you're a pitcher, how large are the foul line areas. Bigger foul ball areas always means more outs

There are plenty of players that have concerns about playing on artificial surface.

As far as going where the money is, you are correct. They will always follow the money, but if they get offered similar contracts, there are always other considerations. Do they like the city itself? Does the team have a chance to win a WS? I'm sure the stadium is a consideration. Some may like the fact during spring they play in a nice warm cozy dome that the Rogers Centre offers, while others still prefer to play in a more natural style ball park.

When Camden Yards was built/designed, (the first of the new style stadiums), they asked tons of players what they want and love in a stadium. Once they got that feedback, they designed the stadium, and as you can see, Camden Yards is the furthest thing from the Rogers Centre. After Camden Yards was built, pretty much the rest of teams followed suite. Some teams decided to try and get the best of both worlds, and old style open air stadium with a re-tractable roof. Milwaukee, Seattle, Houston, and Arizona all have that type of stadium, and Texas is getting a new stadium like this as well (already their second, after skydome was built so they will have lapped us in new stadiums..lol).

Anyhow, bottom line is, players care about the stadium they play in, and fans care about the place they go to watch baseball. You look at any poll of "worst stadiums in baseball", and 3 near the bottom will always be Tampa, Oakland, and Toronto.

Holee crap I can't believe you went to that much trouble! I will give you this....It would be nice to have a new DOMED stadium with natural grass and a decent food court. To me DOMED is key as I just want to be comfortable, know that there will be a game on the day and at the scheduled time I purchased the tickets for, and have a view of the field from seats that are not going to give me slivers. If that is in a new stadium BONUS, if it is at the Rogers Center, so be it.
BTW you do have a good point re some player not liking artificial surfaces. I am sure that some players, if the dollars are close will opt for natural grass unless they believe a ring is a possibility playing for a team with artificial surfaces. There are also players that prefer playing in the U.S.

Rogers centre comes out badly in all three.

From a fans perspective you have to wonder about some of the criteria those rankings are based on. Not sure something like downtown view would matter to most fans.

Things that would matter most I would expect to be:

- accessibility
- comfort
- all-weather
- ticket prices
- visibility of the field

On these criteria the Rogers Centre would score pretty well.

Players might have different views of course. Many won't like the playing surface and outdated stadium building.

Some won't like having to bring their passports with them.

They ought however to like the atmosphere generated these last few years with high attendances.

Especially in your situation because your a bit out of the city (I think you mentioned that earlier if I'm not mistaken), so for sure a re-tractable roof has it's perks. It's all probably moot point though, because the city isn't going to pay for a new stadium, location still remains an obstacle (Downsview and Ontario Place have been bandied about on this board, and on sports shows, etc) but there always is issues with that, so only thing that's left to remain is renovate the place. They're going to try their hardest to make the place nice, but IMHO, the basic structure of it is to difficult to change, and it will never have that nice ball park feel to it. There are plenty of people that still like it, but I've been some nice ball parks in the U.S such as Wrigley Field and Petco Park, and for me the atmosphere and feel of those parks blows Rogers Centre out of the water.

When the roof is open and the place is packed, I'm sure the players love it and I think it's looks much better when I'm watching on T.V.

I have to think that the powers that be are quite aware it's outdated and something has to be done. People a lot smarter than me are probably working on a solution so it will be interesting to see what develops...lol.

Jays ownership should just ask the City for land and funding. The City of Toronto has a lot of vacant land and the current political climate is perfect for such an ask.

Tory will champion this. He's been spending like there's no tomorrow while in office.

Glad I am not a taxpayer in Toronto. It is inevitable that taxes will go up significantly in the coming years with the strain his administration is placing on the City's finances.

Mainly, its the fact we cant have natural grass in our SkyDome. Which is our downfall.

Its the same problem the fishbowl has in Tampa. Its impossible to lay grass in that monstrosity

Shapiro/Akins are just trying to patchwork the team together until Martin and Tulo's contracts are done with and Bichette and Vlad jr have arrived....2020/2021
If that is the plan, why did they just re-sign Josh? Unless they are going to deal him for rookies and prospects in the coming months?

Why didn't they sign Josh for more than 1 year?????

and as for Granderson: He has to be an upgrade from Upton or does he? Back to Cleveland North before Shatkins left!

I wouldn't read to much in the Granderson signing. He'll be a left hand bat off the bench, and start the odd time against right handed pitching.

assuming you are correct.....why did they resign Zeke? Sure wasn't for his clutch hitting and RBI production!

I think Donaldson chose this path so he can have a productive year and negotiate from strength. As well it's a big FA year so hedging to be a better product next year.
