The Weinstein Bros. got their start in Buffalo.

For those of you old enough to remember, we used to get ads for Buffalo concerts that were being put on by Harvey and Corky Productions.

From Wikipedia: Weinstein, his brother Bob, and Corky Burger independently produced rock concerts as Harvey & Corky Productions in Buffalo through most of the 1970s.

What is also curious is the reaction given that he was a huge fundraiser for, and contributor to Democratic Candidates.

For instance, not a single late night U.S. television comedian has thus far mentioned this.

The receivers are in some cases returning the money.

But considering how common knowledge his behavior was it appears to be a case saving face and later questions.

Money talks and is now increasingly tied to bad optics and social media and cannot be wiped off like the stains on the casting couch.

NYT Daily podcast did a big expose on this on Friday.

In no way am I justifying this kind of behaviour (Weinstein), but I’m not surprised that people like Ashley Judd didn’t come forward on this earlier in her career, when it first happened. Weinstein is (close to) literally a Hollywood kingmaker, particularly if you’re interested in roles in films that are Oscar-contenders.

Short of being raped, would it really be worth risking your dreams in-terms of a career in Hollywood to expose this guy? The keyword is risk - an exposé or report may go nowhere in a town like that.

It’s like the young women, particularly gymnasts, who were abused by their coaches, particularly at the national level. When Coach touchy-feely seems to control your life as you know it, who can you turn to?

In my own life I knew/know girls who put up with this kind of bullshit to keep jobs they (think they) need.

The movie business is notorious for making women (and guys) put out in order to get considered for roles. The payoffs in terms of fame and $$$ are huge. The competition is insane. And sucking the right guy's dick can make you a star - or so he will tell you. And even if you blow the whistle on a creep, he has money, power, influence and enough powerful buddies - all who play the same game - that he can wreck your career and your life.

Weinstein is just the tip of the dick-iceberg.

Cosby, Trump, Weinstein ... fighting these powerful scumbags is almost impossible without many victims getting together after years of the same behaviour. If they try to fight back these women simply get victimized more with more publicity and shame that will hound them forever.

Absolutely no doubt whatsoever that Hollywood is a cesspool of harassment, corruption and repression.

By the way the pressure has gotten to Lisa Bloom, who has withdrawn from representing him.

Oagre, you are correct in so many ways that you can't even imagine it.

Harvey redefines the term "scumbag". Trust me when I say this.

I'm glad he's gone, he turned the Oscars into a farce.

The worst was 1998, when his film Shakespeare in Love won Best Picture over Saving Private Ryan. He always was a crotch grabbin scumbag, Ashley Judd has nothing to lose.

OTOH, when I piddled around on the fringes of the movie biz in the 90's, the # of aspiring actresses who were looking to fuck the right agent or producer or anyone else they thought would "help them be a star" was immense!

A chick I knew was sleeping with - predictably - a B list movie producer, so she could do him, get invited to more parties and then fuck someone more important. One morning she was sucking his dick and there was a knock on the door. Another aspiring actress had flown in from Chicago to LA with no notice because the guy had given her his home address and girl #2 wanted to drop in and fuck him, so she could get him to help her career.

I got the impression that this was just life as usual in the film business!

Moral of the story: - Guys in the entertainment industry are often scumbags. But women facilitate this and use it as much as they can. It's only afterwards that many of them turn on the guys who exploited them - i.e. the Gian Ghomeshi episode.
