Former Toronto Blue Jays outfielder and MLB all-star Raul Mondesi has been sentenced to eight years in prison for corruption during his tenure as mayor in San Cristobal, Dominican Republic, according to Hector Gomez of Deportivo Z 101. Mondesi was mayor of San Cristobal, his hometown, from 2010-2016 and, according to ESPN, he defrauded more than $6 million USD while in office.

He has reportedly been under house arrest since February while awaiting trial.

Mondesi played 13 seasons in the major leagues split between seven different teams. He was named NL Rookie of the Year in 1994 and was an all-star in 1995, both while a member of the Los Angeles Dodgers.

The 46-year-old played two-and-a-half years with the Blue Jays, batting .251/.328/.470 with 66 home runs and 196 RBI in 1,414 plate appearances with the club.

Mondesi came to Toronto along with pitcher Pedro Borbon Jr. in a 1999 trade in exchange for fan-favourite Shawn Green. Mondesi was eventually traded to the New York Yankees in July 2002.

Mondesi last played for the Atlanta Braves in 2005, appearing in 41 games before being released on May 31 that year.

On another note, R.A. Dickey is playing for the Atlanta Braves, has 10-10 record, 4.32 ERA.

Astonishing that a person who played pro baseball in this age could possibly need to skim money.

I guess that nose candy & fresh pussy don't come cheap anymore when you're a few years removed from the bright lights....

He made 66.5 million in his career. I'm sure he still could afford lots of nose candy and pussy, human greed always will always be the downfall to some people when they're given the opportunity.

He continues to deliver exactly what I'd expect him to. Lots of innings and an average record--not great, not terrible. I was glad he left but to be honest the Jays could have used him this year.

What was so dumb about it other than it had nothing to do with the topic at hand, totally out of the blue, and completely useless information that nobody was going to care about? lol
Don't know what I was thinking. Hope I don't get banned for calling the post dumb.
