An Iraqi painter-decorator who was first in the latest wave of arrests by anti-terror police investigating the Parsons Green tube bombing has been pictured for the first time.
Mahdi Ramadi, known as Bilal, has been named locally as the first of three men detained in Newport, south Wales this week, with witnesses saying he smiled when police moved in to arrest him.
Six people are now in custody as detectives attempt to find out who planted the homemade bomb which injured 30 when it failed to properly detonate on the district line train last Friday.
The latest arrest came when officers detained a 17-year-old boy was made in Thornton Heath, south London, last night.
Forensics experts are scouring a three-storey house in the suburb this morning, which neighbours say houses asylum seekers being dealt with by the Home Office.
As well as Ramadi, the investigation into the rush hour bombing has seen two other men detained in Newport, south Wales, a 21-year-old named Yahyah Farroukh arrested in Hounslow, west London, and an 18-year-old man detained at the Port of Dover.
A time limit on Mr Farroukh's detention is expected to expire today, while detectives have been given until Saturday to continue questioning the 18-year-old suspect.
In Thornton Heath this morning, neighbours of the newly-raided house - which they claimed to have seen police visit before - raided said they heard loud banging at around midnight.
Tom McCall, who lives behind the end terrace house, said: 'A couple of weeks ago there was a two police cars outside and some informed officers went inside the house. But we didn't read anything into it until this recent incident.'
