Record breaking week for MLB

O

Everyone notices that Cleveland has won 21 in a row and broken the AL record for most wins in a row. Will be interesting to see how many more they can add on.

Last night the Twins set another record with little fanfare. They homered in each of the first 7 innings of their game against the Padres, setting a new MLB record, twice! The old record was the first 5 innings and they tacked on 2 more. BTW, they won 16-0.

Cleveland's run is remarkable. Players are so much more talented these days. Pitchers throw harder than ever. And deep bullpens. This ain't the era of 10 team leagues with no black and latino players.

It all makes sense... couple years back we get Shapiro and Atkins from Cleveland, we start to slide and they are now having a banner record breaking season.

Incorrect. I recall when I as young that there were only 8 teams each in the American League and National League respectively. There were no playoffs. Boston and Detroit were among the last to employ black players. Of course, not until the start of expansion in 1961 was the schedule increased from 154 to 162 games and not until 1969 was the concept of playoffs brought about.

My context were the winning streaks of the 1916 New York Giants (26) and 1935 Chicago Cubs (21) when they played 152 and 154 games respectively. There certainly weren't any players of colour in those years.

The juiced ball has fucked with stats more than steroids.
Agreed ..... and when both steroids and juiced balls were the norm we saw Bonds, McGuire and Sosa putting on some shows and packing the parks. MLB has an easy fix if things stagnate, just some minor changes for the ball.
