Not exactly ground breaking technological improvements. I think you're right, we're at the point that these new phones are so good, we're only going to see minor improvements on existing technologies from here on.

The 7 might just be the best deal when the 8 and 10 is released.
This is probably the smartest advice on electronics these days.
Last years computers and phones aren't that far behind, processor upgrades are now incremental, not exponential.

Thank you. :D

The only thing that Apple could do to "wow" the smart phone industry, would to be to offer expandable memory/micro SD card slot. The amount Apple charges for a memory bump amounts to highway robbery. Memory is cheap these days, which is why that pisses me off!

I have a 64gb iPhone 6. It has 12 lossless compressed full albums and hundreds of pictures. It isn't even half full. how much memory do people really need on their phone?

(Cue TeeJay to say old versions weren't secure. Doesn't matter. It works well enough to hand my phone to a friend and it's secure if you uninstall and delete all the data. Modern versions fixed the old problems anyway by moving encryption to a separate chip.)
lol you seem to have forgotten the exploit from summer 2017 I posted the link to you last time you tried arguing the exploits were from old versions
Anyone who thinks Knox (or similar software) is "secure" is clueless when it comes to tech anyways

I take a lot of photos and the dual camera is excellent. Photos taken with the portrait effect are simply stunning and rival a good DSLR.
If you think this I can only shake my head in disbeleif
Heck the Pixel & Blackberry phone cameras smoked the iPhone cameras

A basic point and shoot camera is far better, to even try and say DSLR & iPhone in same breath is sacrilege

No but you obviously are
The issue with most review sites like this should be obvious even to mouth breathers

If you are trying to compare a brand new shiny iPhone 8 released in 2017 you need to compare it against a brand new shiny camera released in 2017
Problem with most idiots is they get an SLR 5 years ago, then compare its quality against every new phone so they always say phone is "catching up" and then "surpassing" the camera

I have owned far more cell phones than you will ever see in your lifetime (and more cameras actually)

Wow, you really got me with that one, not sure I can come back from such a zinger.

Well, enjoy the excellent photos from your blackberry, I'm sure they'll kill those from the iphone X, even with all the proprietary chips, processing and billions Apple can throw at it.
I'll just bow to your superior tech expertise.

Neither Blackberry, nor Apple makes camera lenses for the phones. Blackberry for the Priv used the German Company Carl Zeiss, the same company that Sony uses for their lenses. Apple in the past has used the Taiwanese companies Largan Precision and Genius Optical and more recently Kantatsu from Japan. Actually all cell phones are composites of many different manufactures and it is how the components are put together and ultimately work together that distinguishes one phone from another in terms of quality. Cell phone manufactures may choose to spend relatively more on one component of the the phone than another company might. Image is another issue and Apple has marketed their products brilliantly to cult status.

Not sure where you're getting your information. The iPhone 7 Plus portrait mode (bokeh effect) is actually amazing. As is the regular photos, 2x optical zoom, pano, time-lapse, slo-mo and video/audio. In addition to that you can crop, edit use all sorts of filters etc. all in one handy package that fits in your pocket.

Obviously if you want super high quality photos, use a DSLR. But are you really going to carry a big bulky camera around with you all the time? And how's your point and shoot camera or DSLR for phone calls, email, texts and surfing the web?

I’m a huge photography enthusiast, but it’s getting harder and harder to justify mirrorless and DSLRs for most people. I was watching some videos today of the photo facial relighting feature on the iPhone 8+. I didn’t realize before that it actually works in real time! It literally updates the depth map and its understanding of the scene as you’re pointing the camera at someone. As they turn their head, the lighting seamlessly tracks their head, based on the artificial lighting configuration you’ve chosen. It’s jaw-dropping. Of course you can do it after you’ve taken the photo too. And the bokeh simulation is really very good for portraits now. If you were carrying around a 50mm f/2.8 full frame lens you’d get about the same effect, but who wants to crate that rig around with them? And you still wouldn’t have a depth map to allow the same type of relighting in post-processing. I guess you could ask a friend to carry around a softbox or reflector around. LOL.

Once this algorithmic, multi-camera, multi-lens stuff really gets going, the DSLR market is going to shrink back down to pros and only the most serious enthusiasts.

.... I think that the X represents the twilight for Apple and after this phone, subsequent releases will be less and less impressive.

This is probably the smartest advice on electronics these days.

Always has been that way. Back in the 90's who would have thought there could be anything better than this baby!?!?!

The iPhone X is a game changer in terms of how the user inter-acts with the device...and I call it a device rather than a iphone because it's everything from a camera, video camera, email, ipod, etc. Having said that it doesn't appear to crack any new business categories...just an big change on how the user interacts.

Apple's play will convert some Android but not many (maybe they'll convert the failed Microsoft phone users) ....the question is the speed of upgrade from your existing apple devices for those who are happy with the apple ecosystem.

For those who commented about better innovation from others, or that apple copies, etc....apple does not care about you, doesn't value your opinions about how much better you like your Samsung device. They're making plenty of money growing the happy base. And BTW, that happy base are not techno-illiterate dumbo's, or "fan-boys", but many who are very happy with a sophisticated suite of products that work well together.

Well, enjoy the excellent photos from your blackberry
Blackberry has been dead for a while now... most devices are made by other companies (Chinese and Indian) and BB10 was abandoned in favour of Android (one of the stupidest things they ever did)

Jim Carrey: ‘Apple’s New iPhone Is Designed To Enslave Humanity’

Even though I share the same beliefs as he does w.r.t. spirituality and metaphysics and philosophy I think he is taking it too far here to the point that it’s starting to signal a troubled mind.

There is no point fearing mongering the evolution of technology and advancements...I can see why people would be scared of this and the potential damage it could do if it fell in the wrong hands, however what’s to stop companies scanning your face out in the public if it’s this easy to scan the fine details of your face. At first I was uncomfortable with this but now I wouldn’t mind it provided that Gen 1 of this works well. I still got the 8 in the mean time this tech gets optimized.

Thinking it through I now like it because it opens up so many positives and opportunities such as being able to diagnose if you have a likelihood of a mental disorder based on your expressions. Just as much negatives it opens I believe it opens just as much opportunity to improve our life.
