Sad day for baseball

Bud Selig. Hall of Fame. What a crock.

His speech was disgustingly self serving, applauding his accomplishments. And blatantly false at times in terms of what he accomplished.

It's sad that Tim Raines had to enter the hall the same day as this menace.

It seems there is a denigration of HOFs in all sports in the past few years. Raines was a good player but not a chance he should be in the hall. Bagwell had a few good years for a team that annually underacheived. Wasn't pudge Rodriguez joined in with the bonds/Sosa group as a 'roid user?

Judge Kenesaw Mountain Landis kept blacks out baseball, Harold Ballard destroyed a once proud franchise and turned a blind eye to pedophiles. Yet they are both in their respective HOF's. So what's wrong with Selig?

You don't understand baseball if you think Tim Raines was not deserving to be a hall of famer. Let me guess.. you thought joe carter was a legit star because you are fascinated by the RBI.

Congrats to Tim Raines but he is probably in the bottom 10% of HOFers. 3 Expos in the HOF. Sadly, Gary Carter is gone. His selection to the Hall was also controversial.

BTW: There is a theory that the radar gun was a factor in Carter's premature death.

How so? What was the issue?
"Given the uncertainty of the Expo franchise, Carter's employment by the Mets organization since retiring as a player, his World Series title with the Mets, and his media celebrity during his stint in New York, Carter shifted his preference to be enshrined with a Mets cap after his election to the Hall. The New York City media strongly supported Carter's preference to go into the Hall as a Met. Carter joked that "he wanted his Cooperstown cap to be a half-and-halfer, split between the Expos and Mets".[SUP][18][/SUP] The final decision rested with the Hall of Fame, and Hall president Dale Petroskey declared that Carter's achievements with the Expos over twelve season had earned his induction, whereas his five seasons with the Mets by itself would not have, saying "we want to have represented on the plaque the team that best represents where a player made the biggest"

Some (not all) people think that Carter's media celebrity was at least partly responsible for his selection to the HOF.

Yeah, that's right, use of a radar gun caused Gary Carter's brain cancer, but most
(if not all) other MLB catchers in the past 45 years haven't contracted the same disease.

So basically there was no controversy regarding Carter's worthiness, only as to which cap he'd wear.

As such, citing Carter's selection has nothing at all to do with your statement that Raines is in the bottom 10% and may not be worthy because Carter was clearly worthy. He was inducted in his 6th year of eligibility, so anybody who questions his worthiness does not know what they are talking about.

Not all HOFers are equal. 1st ballot HOFers are clearly the cream of the crop. 6th to 10th ballot HOFers are not the cream of the crop.

If I had to pick an all star HOF baseball team, Raines and Carter (RIP) would not be on it. Gary Carter (RIP) is borderline HOF.
