I partially agree with Kevin Johnston because prayer should not be part of the public school system. It was a grave mistake for allowing it in the first place since it unfairly favors one religion over others. That being said, he went too far when he offered a reward to encourage people to spy on students in prayer.

I also think that we have been favoring Catholics for too long. If Catholics, Muslims, etc want religious or cultural education, they should fund it on their own.

While I agree with you about prayer in school, I have a feeling this guy's actions went far beyond peaceably voicing his opinion.

And it's likely that his actions were designed to get him in the news to further his political ambitions.

It's not. Ever hear of Ernst Zundel?
Even for him. The answer is intelligent refuting of his arguments, not saying that he can't be as stupid as he wants to be.

Now if he threatens harm against people based on their being Jewish that is another matter all together.

Likewise if Canada chooses not to admit him to the country.

No because people believe that shit if you let it fester, and it causes more anti-semitism and more hatred. This I've witnessed first hand. There's no debate. (And I'm not even Jewish).

You Americans overrate freedom IMHO.

No way in hell should anyone in Canada EVER go to jail for speech! It's our fundamental right. You might not like what ppl have to say, but it's our freedom.

Trudeau is ruining this country. Next up M-103.

Who gets to decide what is "shit?" What if I'm the Minister of Justice and I decide that everyone who says what you believe is engaging in hate speech?

This is a very slippery slope when it is a matter of someone's opinion, rather than actual threats of harm.

Free speech is ugly, but even uglier is being incarcerated for speaking your mind.

Nothing scares me more than "hate" laws. Freedom to express oneself is the great safety valve of the democratic society. It keeps ideas in the open, where they can be debated, condemned; where they can be discarded or embraced or defeated. Without fear. Hate speech laws are all about fear, suppression and sweeping unpopular or evil ideas under the carpet where they can fester, where they can acquire the badge of martyrdom and legitimacy. The Weimar Republic had hate speech laws and used them often. How did that work out? If there's one thing that I wish we had, it's the Canadian equivalent of the First Amendment.

Are only white people charged with hate crimes?
Seems unlikely when about 125 of the 1,362 hate crimes in 2015 were racially motivated against white people. I'd say hate criminals are more diverse than corporate boardrooms.

Exactly. I think he also protested in Mississauga city hall by ripping up a Quaran.
So what? Ripping up a Quran is, or should be, his rightful free speech.

The article doesn't say what he did to warrant hate crime charges. I think we need to know that before intelligently commenting on his guilt.

Don't know if that helps. Jewish people, for example, might be victims of religion motivated hate crimes, but be classed as white.

Would think it would be reported what prompted the charge. On his website, linked in the National Post article, he says he can't talk about the charges until he talks to his lawyer. Some speculation in the National Post.

National Post
http://nationalpost.com/news/canada...arge/wcm/97cad7a7-862e-4e8e-a486-49886d071a46

viciously attacked Mississauga Mayor Bonnie Crombie, saying she was turning the city “into a dangerous Islamic war zone” so Muslims could “kill her son just for being gay.” Crombie later said she filed a hate-crimes complaint to Peel police over the post, which was later taken down.

he said Liberal MP Iqra Khalid could get shot for introducing a motion condemning Islamophobia in the House of Commons, and said he’d be there to witness it with a “with a big, fat smile.”
