Can't really blame people for trying to protect their job or get better pay and more hours.Who here doesn't want more money?
I worked in the LCBO when I was young for the xmas and New Years rush.Yeah it was good pay for stocking shelves. I tried after finishing school to get a full time job with no luck.
People talk like if they go on strike the world will end.Fuck me,it's just booze.If you rely on booze that much you have bigger issues.

One of my friends is married to a public "servant". She put him on her government benefits plan because it is so much superior to his private sector plan. Government employees should try and get a job in the real world and see how the other 60%-70% live and whose taxes fund their cushy jobs.

I dated a girl who worked for them in the 1990's. They have the cushiest job in the world, they are overpaid, hardly do any work all day and its almost impossible to get fired from that place.

And now they have even more demands!!

So based on the rest of your post, you don't really believe the first line (bolded).

It is not the LCBO holding us hostage, it is the union.

Except they try to sell us the bullshit that they are overworked, underpaid, lousy benefits, no job security, etc. How dumb do they think we are?

Another reason to privatize, and another reason to stop drinking.

The only argument for the LCBO is the "control" part. Since they are not profit based, particularly (although they do make a tidy sum for the Provincial coffers), they aren't pressured to sell to underage or intoxicated people. The whole thing is a holdover from prohibition, which several provinces experienced back in the 30's, albeit not as long or as extensively as in the U.S.

Who here remembers their parents going to a barn-like warehouse where they had to prove literacy by filling out the form and then were surreptitiously handed a brown paper wrapped bottle of hooch? We could save a lot of money if we let the corner store do the job, thereby greatly improving the lives of many hard-working immigrants to Canada. Koreans and East Indian folks who currently subsist selling overpriced loaves of bread and lottery tickets. If they have issues with selling to underaged or intoxicated clients, pull their license. They will never go on strike, and we can have booze to ease the pain of the huge taxes we pay.

If they charge the same mark-up on booze as the high overhead LCBO does, the government will get an even bigger margin.
All that extra cash will almost cover the increased health costs attached to alcohol consumption.

It's as good as it gets for anything involving the necessary evil that is government.

I hear the union adds on the radio talking about how the CEO makes a 6 figure salary while 70% of LCBO workers can't full time. Welcome to the real world. Like everyone else has stated, I knew a guy that worked there. I was a retail manager of a fair size store, he was full-time employee that basically stalked shelves and worked the cash. He was making about 12G's more a year then me, better benefits, more vacation time, etc. Do these people really think we should feel sorry for them? Fucking joke.

I imagine they want more full-time hours without having to let a bunch of people go.

They have a bigger union with more part time workers.

A friend of mine just started working at the LCBO, she makes 12.00 an hour, part time with no benefits.

Has anyone ever purchased Vodka ( or other spirits) from a local distillery?

I would never have thought about it if the looming strike not happened. I do not drink a variety of booze, mainly vodka, some wines and the odd liquors.

I am thinking that I would rather support a local distillery as opposed to the LCBO in hopes that I can get a nice vodka.

Good thing I don't drink alcohol.

I rarely buy from LCBO.

I like mostly wine, so there are enough small wine shops to keep me going....
