The problem is that in many areas some workers are only getting a couple of hours a day with no benefits or set schedule which makes it incredibly hard to find a second job. I don't blame them, I'd strike too. I'll just drink wine...

What I really don't understand how part time employees at the LCBO complain,..."I only have a part time job,...and I don't get benefits, can't support my family on that",...

So now the part time job is supposed to magically turn into a full time with benefits job just because,...and the funds come from were,...???

What these people fail to understand is,... that the very unions that are supposedly there for their benefit,...are actually responsible for the huge increase in part time jobs.

Standing around at a cash register for 7 hours/day is not worth 57K, plus benefits.

The real cash isnt made at those liquor stores, the real money is made at headquarters on Lakeshore & Jarvis.
Thats where all the cashiers go to "die" when they reach middle-age (and collect $100K/year).

Nepotism FTW!!!!

I gotta be honest, I can't say I blame the privileged, poor snowflakes.
If I were in their positions, I'd do the same thing :adoration:

But that's their own fault. They can't afford to give people more hours because the people that have seniority soak up all the hours which their union negotiated.

Lest anyone think that prohibition was solely an American act of stupidity. The LCBO, Alcool NB Liquor, NSLC etc. . . are all legacies of Canada's own effort at the same.

The Eighteenth Amendment did put Mobsters out of business, or did it?

Plus laws that prohibited dancing were alcohol was served,...women had a separate entrance, no drinking on your front porch.

I actually believe some, if not all of those laws are still on the books, could be wrong.

Rather the opposite. Cast your mind to Boardwalk Empire, The Untouchables etc. . . .
You're indeed correct Ardie. This help give rise to the likes of Enoch Lewis "Nucky " Johnson, Al Capone, Lucky Luciano, and Arnold Rothstein. Why the Volstead Act known as the Cullen-Harrison Act, allowing the manufacture and sale of certain kinds of alcoholic beverages came back about on March 22, 1933.

The LCBO needs to go. This government cash cow is poorly management, a restraint of trade and limits the choices of the Ontario consumer. A legal challenge to this government monopoly with the huge mark ups would cost millions but could be done. Queens Park knows that no challenges are likely and the legal bill for the LCBO would be paid by the taxpayer anyway. Yes there is lots of variety at the LCBO but lots of products are denied. Imagine a government run grocery store with no other private stores allowed to operate as an analogy.

I guess they got a nice juicy raise and full time guarantee employment.
And a monopolistic enabled increase in the product to the public,... to "recover" the increase in wages and benifits,...achieved by blackmail
