Surprised noone mentioned this yet
After a few months ago Canna got hit once https://terb.cc/vbulletin/showthrea...e-600K-from-man-at-pearson-on-domestic-flight
Now police back at it with huge raid on store front and arrests being made

https://www.thestar.com/news/crime/...raid-canna-clinic-marijuana-dispensaries.html

All seven of the company’s storefront locations in Toronto were raided, as well as five residences, said Toronto police corporate communications director Mark Pugash. There were also three raids in Vancouver.

There are laws that LE seems to enforce while others are ignored. If there are simultaneous Toronto and Vancouver pot raids then the orders for the raids most likely came from Ottawa. The legal cannabis growers, suppliers and investors likely have a significant Ottawa Federal Lobby. There is not much sympathy for the illegal dealers as the law will change in 12 months yet they feel a sense of entitlement and cannot wait. Mark Emory was nailed, yet this message didn't go out to others obviously.

People keep thinking that because the law will be changing in a year, then it is all good in the hood now. Kind of like the whole C-36 thing, but this is soooooo different.

The Gov't is getting into selling pot and therefore need these types of shops closed down. How are LPs like Aurora suppose to make money and support the largest legal grow-op when illegal shops like this are allowed to remain open?

The Gov't will not let this happen. It takes money out of their pocket. Where when C-36 came into play, Ottawa was not getting their own pile of sex workers ready to play competition.

The Government will spawn a new and unique pot black market several times more sophisticated than the illegal cigarette business if they think that they can impose a tax on the pot business which is so counter culture.

These "clinics" are raking in the $$$. They don't care about getting busted. I highly doubt when it goes to court, they will lock anyone up. And if they do, it will be for a short period of time. That's why there's still so many in operation. Huge money in it.

As for the Government selling weed, unless they undercut current prices, the black market will continue to thrive. Economics 101.

Yes, they're likely making the bucks and still worth it....you keep seeing the cops walking out with these huge bags...will they get it back once its legalized? In a year will it still be good?

I doubt they will get anything that was confiscated back.

The raids on these small street front shops will continue even after legislation is passed, it's not about selling a legal product but the fact these small operators won't get a license to sell this legal product. No license, no business.

Currently the only "legal" method of obtaining medical weed is by mail.

This fact seems to be lost on a lot of people. But I guess addicts are to fucked up to understand that.
It's not that the users or "addicts" as you call them who don't understand the law, it's the people selling it. If there's a store selling it down the street, they could care less if it's part of a legal process. These people have simply switched from their dealer (who sold it from his home) to the shop on the corner. I can't say I blame them.

I have no problem with people smoking weed. I have a puff once in a while, just like I have a drink once in a while. No biggie.

I would make a guess that with one organization having nation-wide raids, there could be more illegal activity involved than just operating a business without a license.

There are compassionate clubs for those affected by multiple sclerosis, end stage cancer, hiv etc. that are known to Toronto LE but are allowed to operate and distribute and are not mail order.

I get around.
Complete waste of time by Toronto police on a victimless crime. But it's a lot easy to raid a dispensary than do real police work.

IMO the chains & franchise operations like Canna and CC are going to keep their stores open in the hope of being grandfathered in and allowed to get a local business license when Prohibition ends.

Places like Canna and CC are associated with organised crime and do not have successful government lobbies or political influences like big Pharma. As a result orders from levels of government higher than at the municipal level are being given to eradicate and grind into the dust illegal pot shops coast to coast. The illegal pot shops will most likely not be given local business licences by the look of things.

Truth. I know you meant it, but I'll add, "under supervision of your physician."

...Not someone trained as a physician that you had a 5 minute conversation with over Skype. I know this is a generalization - but the common way to obtain a license for access to any of the shops in TO that require more than ID seems to be this method, over the past 3 years.

The Marc Emery-aligned shops, and most that I hear being busted of late just require ID, no "medical license" needed.

A friend worked in a shop that got raided a while back, and he said employees are pretty traumatized by it all, but the product that is seized is a drop in the bucket as shops rarely keep on-hand what they can't afford to lose. The exception here is whatever they lose from the fridge.

We can speculate all we want on the design of the Ontario policy when it comes to POS, but I hear nothing credible worth really discussing, yet. Whether it be available at the LCBO, through pharmacies or through regulated storefronts will be telling, regardless of the government in-charge at the time of implementation.

I think you're right about "hoping to be grandfathered in." As it stands now, they are a good real-world test-bed for this option. You obviously hear more complaints than praise in the media because of the nature of the business at-present, but I understand these shops are attracting a criminal element (lots of product that is easy to sell and almost always cash on-hand - who wants to let your bank know where you shop, if the shop accepts plastic at all).

At this point I'm just as interested to see where legalized ganj will be sold, as I am with what it will cost. And through this, I'm even more interested in how the black market will adapt to these changes.

A $15/gram system (some speculate "higher") would be a good reason to continue seeking black market options, in-particular if criminal charges for this activity are similar to acquiring black market liquor or cigarettes.

This fact seems to be lost on a lot of people. But I guess addicts are to fucked up to understand that.
It's "too fucked up"

I find this hilarious because I was getting At least 5 to 6 pm' s per week from people saying that they are interested in investing in my venture but as soon as they find out that it's not a dispensary ....radio silence.
Dispensaries are great and I support them but at the end of the day our society has too much of the "loop hole" attitude and just can't wait. This is exactly why I decide to go a different route with my business.

It's true that attitudes towards pot has changed as earlier this week I was on Bay St. And I seen this white guy probably in his 30's in a very nice suit spark up his joint as soon as he got outside of the building that he worked. He was was walking along Bay without a care in the world. I had a brief chat with the guy and he was basically saying what dawnlee has said about it being therapeutic for him once he finishes his stressful Bay St. job.

it will be interesting to see what happens once pot is finally legalized but until then the raids will continue.

The impoverished country of Malawi could be getting a break. Currently it's the country that celebrities poach children from. They also have the most valuable verdura in the world, Malawi Dirt is high in CBD (5%) but also high in THC (30%).

I'm getting fed up with expensive prescriptions to control my health problems. If I can get a Malawi Dirt extract and 2/3 less of THC, I'm in. I don't really want to get THAT high, just content.

Unfortunately this is no big surprise that Canna clinic got raid. Basically a few bread crumbs were posted in the media. I remember hearing rumors that a injunction been filed against canna clinic way back in around February. https://www.google.ca/amp/globalnew...-jodie-emery-arrested-at-toronto-airport/amp/

Then you got John Tory. Saying the raids are not done yet. 3 days before the first raids.

It was a great time for the short while it lasted It gave us a taste of what legalization could look like. But unfortunately
The dispensary model is more than likely is not what in the plans.

So with legalization the max carry amout will be 30g. Right now most licensed producers have a 5g minimum purchase amount of each strain. So basically it’s my feeling that will carry over to the rec market hence why 30g will be the new oz lol

Now adays being on the mmrp. Program. I wouldn’t step foot in a dispensary. Simple cause the prices are sometimes/ most of the time double to what I can get from the lp. And secondly the quality is generally better Thur the lp. Being lab tested and grown in a controlled environment. Plus you can claim it on your insurance depending on what type of coverage you have. Ie flex plan. Also it’s tax deductible.
