Among other considerations consider WT happens if franchise changes ownership and the rules change as happened with Tim Hortons

The group of franchisees, who call themselves the Great White North Franchisee Association, say that ever since U.S.-based firm Restaurant Brands bought the iconic coffee and doughnut chain and merged it with Burger King in 2014, their costs have increased, but the new owners haven't allowed them to raise prices to recoup those costs.

They went public with their complaints earlier this year, but after working with management behind the scenes to try to address their concerns, they launched the class action lawsuit on Monday, seeking $500 million in damages.

"Since its acquisition," the statement of claim reads, "[Restaurant Brands] has used various strategies to extract more money out of the Tim Hortons franchise system at the expense of franchisees."

good luck suing them as they have the team of lawyers defending the contract they wrote and you blindly signed

Interesting to see how this will end.

I am curious how they can so heavy handedly increase the monthly costs for the franchises

Now the owners have lawyer fees as well as less income and the added stress of a lawsuit

I am so not interested in a franchise because there is no easy way out and so many things can go south like who wants to buy their franchise when they are suing corporation because they have no profit? I am guessing corporation gets a cut of any franchise that does sell

I know that some have had success but they worked hard and got lucky nothing went south

The boatloads of cash RB's has made on the stock is where the big money is. And btw - don't want your TH franchise anymore? Great, sell it in 3.2 seconds to the growing hoards of buyers on the waiting list to get in. RB/3G is like Gordon Gekko with a dash of Edward Scissorhands. Next stop Kellogg's, Dairy Queen, etc. etc. Happy, phat companies beware lol.

Easy to sell TH franchise at a profit with owners suing company because they are not making money ? I would think lawsuit would drive price down as potential owners run. The franchise owners have just driven the worth of their franchise down unless they win lawsuit which is going to cost $ they claim they do not have as well as years. I never tried to sell a franchise but it must be quite a time consuming effort
