Mayweather may be 40 years old, but I think Connor is in for a surprise at just how vastly different the sport of boxing is compared to MMA. He's going to be get gassed very fast, won't be able to knockout with the bigger gloves and Floyd's impeccable defense.

When all you have is your arms for offense, they feel like giant wooden blocks very quickly.

Huge money grab for both. Prediction: after a close first round McGregor ends the fight with a surprise KO:wink: Mayweather gets a rematch and another huge payday for both and wins in the third after being dominated for two rounds :wink:Sets up a third fight for the biggest purse ever with Mayweather scoring a 30 second KO. After all this is the fight game where money rules.

I think that zero in the loss column is important to FM. The scenario you described would've applied to a Pacquiao trilogy as well

Mayweather fights normally go the distance so I think McGregor could go the distance.
I give McGregor a 5 per cent chance of winning only because he's 12 years younger and that's a significant advantage.
Sometimes older fighters just completely lose it overnight.
It will be very difficult for McGregor to figure out how to get past Mayweather's defensive tactics.

I would agree with you but many saw the Pacquiao fight as a legitimate contest, a real boxing match between fighters who saw each other as great boxers. The fight with McGregor, although a sanctioned bout???, is a carnival sideshow all about money. Mayweather is chasing to better Marciano's record so that may be a motivating factor for him but money may be the bigger drug for him at this time in his life. Mayweather is considered one of the best of all time. Does McGregor have a chance in this fight? Mayweather has defeated many of the best in his career. McGregor is one of the best self promoters in the business, ever. He is the biggest draw in MMA and not even their best fighter. His chance of winning a legitimate boxing match against Mayweather is best evidenced by the Vegas odds. Sure upsets can and do happen and strange things have happened before. Good for McGregor though. He has made a lot of money in MMA. I just hope this does not totally embarrass him, but then again, when he does lose, many will have expected that he would due to the rules in Mayweathers favor.

It's a solid strategy for Connor. He can always talk his way out of a loss due to him fighting outside of his specialty, and he'll also be walking away with the biggest payday of his life - were talking tens of millions of dollars beyond what he would ever make competing strictly in MMA in a full MMA career, in a single night.

Connor and Mayweather's non-humbleness are reminiscent of Mohammed Ali and they've both backed up their talk in their careers, so it's a perfect match for one to walk away with a bruised ego. The fact that Mayweather has never lost makes everyone itch for him to lose despite acknowledging that he is a clear favourite.

We've seen what happens to boxers that step into the octagon (they get destroyed), so while this is a carnival act, it may be a necessary one to showcase what happens to an elite MMA fighter that enters a boxing ring. The consequences should be obvious but many people apparently need to see it to believe it. Always up for an education and the slim chance of a world stopping upset.

odds are Floyd Mayweather Jr -600 (1/6)Conor McGregor +400 (4/1)
I am tempted to bet on mayweather

Mayweather opened at about -1100. Mayweather at -600 is absolutely a steal. Only question is if it will drop any further. Must be a lot of UFC fanboys betting on a miracle for Mayweathers odds to change that drastically that quickly.

I don't follow boxing but I heard a boxer was killed in the ring a couple of days ago. Sad.

I suspect there is a possibility that Conner will pull an MMA stunt/move to get himself disqualified to avoid the inevitable

It would have to be egregious. Even things like head butting, hitting below the belt, and so on, gets a fighter a warning and potential deduction of a point. So his "stunt" would have to cause enough harm to mayweather that he is unable to continue the fight. I suspect that if Connor did that, he would face serious repercussions such as loss of his purse, disqualification from boxing and maybe MMA competitions, and obvious destruction of his credibility/brand.

I initially thought this as well, but I read that something was written in the contract about the financial repercurssions if Conor were to do something like this. I also read that Mayweather would have the right to sue him, and the amount he would have to pay would be in line to the value it would have on Mayweather's boxing career i.e. potentially hundreds of millions.

In other words, Conor won't be doing anything crazy

I think that McGregor is going to get destroyed by Floyd, but do you really think that he would release any video that made him look bad unless he wanted it to be seen? He's as media savvy as anyone.

McGregor released an edited version of his sparing with Chris Van Heerden ...and Chris released the unedited version that this was
