Hello Gentlemen,

It's Asian Nicole. When I was in Vienna last summer, I had a short visit to the University of Vienna which is near my hotel.

The University of Vienna (German: Universität Wien) is a public university located in Vienna, Austria. It was founded by Duke Rudolph IV in 1365 and is one of the oldest universities in the German-speaking world. With its long and rich history, the University of Vienna has developed into one of the biggest universities in Europe, and also one of the most renowned, especially in the Humanities. It is associated with 15 Nobel prize winners and has been the academic home of a large number of figures both of historical and academic importance.

Hello Gentlemen,

Wiener Rathaus is the city hall of Vienna, located on Rathausplatz in the Innere Stadt district. Constructed from 1872 to 1883 in a Neo-Gothic style according to plans designed by Friedrich von Schmidt, it houses the office of the Mayor of Vienna as well as the chambers of the city council and Vienna Landtag diet.

My hotel is about 5 minutes walk from the city hall. I was so glad that I saw a concert there when I arrived in Wien on the first day.

Hello Gentlemen,

The Austrian Parliament Building in Vienna is where the two houses of the Austrian Parliament conduct their sessions. It was built to house the two chambers of the Imperial Council, the bicameral legislature of the Cisleithanian (Austrian) part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. Since its construction, the Parliament Building has been the seat of these two houses, and their successors—the National Council and the Federal Council—of the Austrian legislature.

The foundation stone was laid in 1874; the building was completed in 1883. The architect responsible for its Greek Revival style was Theophil Hansen. He designed the building holistically, aiming to have each element harmonizing with all the others.

Hello Gentlemen,

The Hofburg is the former imperial palace in the centre of Vienna. Built in the 13th century and expanded in the centuries since, the palace has been the seat of power of the Habsburg dynasty rulers, and today the official residence and workplace of the President of Austria. It was the principal imperial winter residence, as Schönbrunn Palace was the summer residence.

Since 1279 the Hofburg area has been the documented seat of government. The Hofburg has been expanded over the centuries to include various residences, the imperial chapel, the imperial library, the treasury, the Burgtheater, the Spanish Riding School, the imperial mews. The palace faces the Heroes Square ordered under the reign of Emperor Francis Joseph I, as part of what was planned to become the Kaiserforum (de) but which was never completed. Numerous architects have executed work at the Hofburg as it expanded.

Hello Gentlemen,

The Wiener Musikverein is a concert hall in the Innere Stadt borough of Vienna, Austria. It is the home of the Vienna Philharmonic orchestra.

The "Golden Hall" due to its highly regarded acoustics, is considered one of the finest concert halls in the world, along with Berlin's Konzerthaus, the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, and Boston's Symphony Hall. With the exception of Boston Symphony Hall, none of these halls was built in the modern era with the application of architectural acoustics, and all share a long, tall, and narrow shoebox shape.

I was so happy that I saw a fabulous Mozart concert when I was in Vienna. I love live music, especially the concert took place at such a gorgeous concert hall.

Hello Gentlemen,

The Golden Hall is the venue for the annual Vienna New Year's Concert. It has long been a tradition that Vienna Philharmonic New Year's Concert took place on January 1 at the Golden Hall to present a program consisting of the lively and at the same time nostalgic music from the vast repertoire of the family of Johann Strauss and its contemporaries. These concerts not only delight the audiences in the Musikverein in Vienna, but also enjoy great international popularity through the worldwide television broadcast.

It is a must and tradition for me to watch the Vienna Philharmonic New Year's Concert at 9pm on PBS channel on every New Year Day. Wish one day I would be at Golden Hall to see the live New Year's Concert. Hope my dream is coming true soon. Cheers!

Hello Gentlemen,

Beethoven Pasqualatihaus--Museum in Alsergrund & the University District, Vienna. The "Pasqualatihaus", named after its owner Josef Benedikt Baron Pasqualati, was built in the 18th century and is located on Mölker Bastei, part of the remains of the old city fortifications.

Altogether Ludwig van Beethoven worked in Vienna for 35 years. Thereof he spent eight years living in this apartment on the fourth floor. The spectacular view over the then still undeveloped site of the fortification approaches towards the northern and north-western suburbs of Vienna kept drawing the composer back to Mölker Bastei after his various short stays in the country.

Here he worked on his 4th, 5th, 7th and 8th symphonies, among others, and above all on his opera "Fidelio". Besides numerous documents illustrating the life and work of Beethoven, there is the famous 1804/05 portrait of Beethoven by Willibrord Joseph Mähler and many personal items owned by the composer.

Hello Gentlemen,

Beethoven lived in around 80 places in his 35 years in Vienna, but thankfully not all of them are museums. His two rooms plus another two from a neighbouring apartment have been converted into this museum, which has a good collection of paintings, music scripts and other (some belonging to Ludwig Beethoven or his family and some to people associated with him). There are recordings of his most famous pieces of work.

Although the museum is relatively small, in my opinion it is very interesting to see where Beethoven lived and composed. Interesting artifacts, including his piano.

Hello Gentlemen,

The Hundertwasserhaus is an apartment house in Vienna, built after the idea and concept of Austrian artist Friedensreich Hundertwasser with architect Joseph Krawina as a co-author.

The house was built between 1983 and 1985. It features undulating floors ("an uneven floor is a divine melody to the feet"), a roof covered with earth and grass, and large trees growing from inside the rooms, with limbs extending from windows. Hundertwasser took no payment for the design of the house, declaring that it was worth it, to prevent something ugly from going up in its place.

Within the house there are 53 apartments, four offices, 16 private terraces and three communal terraces, and a total of 250 trees and bushes. The Hundertwasser House is one of Vienna's most visited buildings and has become part of Austria's cultural heritage.

Walked over to have a look and it is worth a visit. A strange building made up of lots of little units, interesting colourful architecture. Looked a little shabby which added to the quirkiness, which reminded me a little of the Gaudi architecture in Barcelona but not as ostentatious.

Hello Gentlemen,

The Albertina Museum is in the Innere Stadt (First District) of Vienna. It houses one of the largest and most important print rooms in the world with approximately 65,000 drawings and one million old master prints, as well as more modern graphic works, photographs and architectural drawings.

Apart from the graphics collection the museum has recently acquired on permanent loan two significant collections of Impressionist and early 20th-century art, some of which will be on permanent display. The museum also houses temporary exhibitions.

Hello Gentlemen,

Walking through the city near Vienna State Opera building I saw this giant pink bunny. I was wondering what that bunny was all about and why it was there. Then I did research and found out some interesting facts. It is a 3D model (by Ottmar Hörl) of a 500 years old painting ‘Young Hare’ by German painter Albrecht Dürer. The painting is in the Albertina Museum.

This pink rabbit is in fact a young hare. It also turns out that he has a multitude of cousins, but more of that later. The German artist, Albrecht Dürer, who hailed from Nuremberg, painted his now famous “Young Hare” in 1502; it is widely acknowledged as a masterpiece of observational art and is housed in the Albertina Museum in Vienna.

The pink sculpture is a giant interpretation of that famous painting. It was created by Ottmar Hörl, the president of the Academy of Fine Arts in Nuremberg since 2005. In 2003, he created a large scale art installation of numerous hares in four shades of green, which were displayed in Nuremberg market square under the title “A large piece of hare”.

Hello Gentlemen,

I joined the local tour to visit one of the famous restaurants in Vienna--Marchfelderhof Restaurant. Because we were a big group, the restaurant people welcome us in front of the door. Wow...it was quite special!

As you enter the Marchfelderhof, keep your eyes open, you will be entertained immediately by the thousands of artwork displayed on the walls. Name it and you may be able to find it hanging on the wall. Each room is like a parlor separated by thick curtains. Each corner is decorated differently and no two pieces, photos, artwork are alike. Even the bathrooms have a theme which are decorated to the nines. I enjoyed a lot touring the different rooms and taking in the antiques from bygone eras. My tour guide told us that this restaurant was one of Napoleon's (yes--the Napoleon) favorites and it is easy to see why.

This restaurant is a must see if you are in Vienna. Plan to spend the evening dining and checking out the decor. You will not be disappointed.

Hello Gentlemen,

The Belvedere is a historic building complex in Vienna, consisting of two Baroque palaces -the Upper and Lower Belvedere, the Orangery and the Palace Stables.

The buildings are set in a Baroque park landscape in the third district of the city. It houses the Belvedere museum. The grounds are set on a gentle gradient and include decorative tiered fountains and cascades, Baroque sculptures, and majestic wrought iron gates. The Baroque palace complex was built as a summer residence for Prince Eugene of Savoy.
