My best friends man went into La senza to buy her some sexy lingerie for this holiday weekend getaway and the sales woman was saying to him
Are you sure its not for you ? he just laughed and said no its for my girlfriend. When he told me this I thought do the sales ladies make men feel this uncomfortable
purchasing under garments? I hope not ! What are your experiences been like shopping for ladies?

I'm pretty comfortable buying lingerie for women at this point in my life, so some good natured teasing like this I wouldn't mind, but a good lingerie salesperson really should be more professional IMO, as there are a lot of guys that feel awkward in a lingerie store. The best saleswomen simply ask once if you need help, and otherwise leave the guy alone, but are available for advice on styles, sizes.

Not much different then buying other items for your self. Most sale staff are helpful, if you can use some advice. On a side note all of the sale staff I have encounter, you might want to buy for them, to model for you. :bounce:

I've never had a problem buying lingerie, most sales ladies are helpful.
The only time I got strange looks was when I was buying outfits in 2 different sizes, for 2 different ladies. Then she was really helpful, offering coordinated but not matching sets.

I've bought lingerie for every woman I've dated after high school. Sometimes I go with her, sometimes alone. Seems natural. Isn't there a saying: "There's nothing sadder than a woman buying lingerie for herself". I took it to heart.
I've also occasionally bought lingerie for women in the industry, though I rarely do that.

Oh, and for fuck's sake, don't ask the salesperson to model the lingerie for you! That's just creepy and demeaning.

I have usually received comments along the lines of "that's so sweet" or "how thoughtful"... plus, the sales ladies have really gone out of their way to make certain I am served well.

In some cases, I could have sworn the ladies were attracted to me but that may just be part of closing the deal! LOL

Make sure you haven't showered in a couple days, cultivate some facial hair, wear sunglasses. Saunter in drinking an orange julious. Claim it's for a friend you're financially helping to achieve her women's studies degree.

I know that some men feel awkward going into the store so another option is to ask the lady her size(s) and shop online.

I had a lovely regular who would bring me the magazine and ask me to circle what I liked in what colours. And I gave him my sizes and he would later surprise me.

MadonnaLove, I think the sales lady was way out of line and should not have made any kind of a comment to the gentleman trying to purchase lingerie. A lot of guys already feel uneasy about being in the store in the first place and the last thing they need is to be made to feel uncomfortable.
Great thread!

Not my thing. If I go in I'm dragged with my girlfriend. I look at the single guys and try to figure out who is buying for a girlfriend and who is buying for themselves. Maybe it's just the girlfriends I have had but I find they spend forever shopping in there. I'm usually outside the store at a crowded bench with other guys waiting for their SA's. I can hit Walmart and pick up underwear in a couple minutes, she will take a half-hour (if I'm lucky) picking a couple panties.

Of course, maybe I should be more sensitive - maybe buy her a pair of crotch-less panties to wear to the next format event we must attend.

If that Sales lady wanted to be of help she really needs to work on her humor.
I'd rather she hiked up her skirt and say "Look how much money I save by not wearing any" or something along those lines.
I have bought for my sister when travelling overseas cause she does not get a particular type where she lives.
No saleswomen, but have come across some tightlipped women eyeing me as I shopped.
It wasn't even fancy ones or my size so they should have immediately known it was not for me.:)
