Pay attention Aardie!
Getting the Best Picture Oscar confirms Toronto as a cultural hotbed. The Shape of Water short story was collecting dust in Guillermo Del Toro's file cabinet. It's only after he made Pacific Rim at Pinewood's extensive aquatic sound stages that he went ahead with a film version. Three new sound stages have been built since this video was made. ]
Uhm, first off Pinewood's Toronto facility doesn't have an aquatic soundstage (it never has, and never had plans to) and second he didn't film The Shape of Water there but at another studio set up (Cinespace Studios to be exact).
They built the room/tank for the underwater sequence, and those 3 new stages at Pinewood are mostly for TV use since they are only 10,000 sq feet in size.

Welcome to the board jessecuster.

Baby Driver eh, was she John Hamm's accomplice? Lily James looked so adorable, I almost missed her.

Another film overlooked by the Oscars is Katheryn Bigalow's Detroit. Very daring of her to make it mixed couples caught in the Detroit riots of 1967. Talk about a lack of female directors.

Kaitlyn Dever could achieve Jennifer Lawrence level of fame, she has the stuff. How many child actors could pull off this scene?

Disney is a money making machine that falls on its face when they attempt original content.

They proclaim themselves as a "family values" company but they don't have a heart. I could be wrong, audiences may embrace A Wrinkle In Time, but the reviews so far aren't favourable. I'm sticking to my forecast that it will be the first big bomb of 2018. Personally, I find Oprah Winfrey sanctimonious and insufferable. Disney would have to pay me to watch her in a film.

Vancouver's Jacob Tremblay has become a legit box office star. He won critical acclaim for his role in Room, his chemistry with Brie Larson propelled her to a Best Actress Oscar. Then he made Wonder which scored the top of the box office on its first week. Now he's followed it up with Good Boys, it has also hit No.1.

Disney's domination of the box office crested with Avengers Endgame. To further their cash grab they re-released the film a second time. They have $80 billion in investment in the PRC - it may be a deal with the devil. They had to compromise some of their films so as not to offend Communist sensitivity. Most notably, the changed the Tibetan Master in Dr. Strange into a Caucasian woman...at this point Benedict Cumberbatch isn't fit to shine Tom Hardy's shoes. Now a new controversy with the star of their live action version of Mulan, Yifei Lui coming out in support of the Communists against the Hong Kong protesters. Looks good on Disney.

And finally is this Eddie Murphy's comeback film? Nice to see Wesley Snipes back in the game...still can't figure out why he went to jail for tax evasion and Nicolas Cage didn't.

Disney sucks ass, they've been strangling the film industry for too long. Have fun with this.

The optics on Ready or Not look great. A 90% fresh on Rotten Tomatoes and an audience score of 85%. If it makes it into the Top 5 at the box office that will be a big plus for the local film industry. It's being released in Toronto first, it's our film, before going wide on the long weekend.

Delving deeper the makers are the same team that created the Evil Dead series Ash vs Evil - no Bruce Campbell is not involved. It's easy to see why they wanted Samara Weaving to front the project.

...the gorgeous girl has paid her dues.

Just go pee!

Samara was great in Three Billboards Outside Ebbing Missouri, her role was to break the tension.

Quentin Tarantino has no soul.

I didn't like how Margot Robbie portrayed Sharon Tate in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. She was the victim of a horrific crime, I would have liked to have known something about her. It's not entirely Robbie's fault since Tarantino is incapable of injecting his characters with any sort of humanity. Robbie plays Tate as a flighty zombie without the decay. One of her weakest performances...it grated on my nerves.

Margot Robbie needs competition.

Mark O'Brien is currently killing it on City on the Hill, stealing scenes from Kevin Bacon no less. I assumed he's from Boston - he's actually a Newfie.

He plays the groom in Ready or Not.

Ready or Not > Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.

Watching Margot Robbie play Sharon Tate, it became clear that she needs competition. Say hello to Samara Weaving. Full review coming in the film section.

Ready or Not, a film that not just Lemmy can love.

just watched it. hated it. I like Brad Pitt and Leonardo DiCaprio. Liked the premise of doing a movie on that subject and place in time. So how can you fuck it up to the point where it was drab. boring and depressing?

I'll admit to being a sucker for Tarantino's films, they are exhilarating to watch the first time. But they don't have the repeat viewing factor of his influences: Sergio Leone and Martin Scorsese.

He took Kill Bill to extremes, it would have worked better as one film. The Hateful 8 was downright grim, had he a soul he could have made a bold statement on violence against women, he squandered the opportunity with ultra-violence instead. Like Django Unchained before it, I felt dirty leaving the theater. In OUATIH, he wasted Margaret Qualley, she was reduced to a skanky male fantasy. Tarantino had previously worked with her father Frank Qualley.
