There are fewer and fewer torrent sites up and running.

extratorrent was one of the best, and a constant, reliable source for both old and new tv shows and movies, etc.

Any tips for what to do when the few remaining torrent sites disappear?

anywhere i want;)
you can always just download kodi if you are using a laptop or computer. It allows you to watch literally any show or movie for free and gives you a list of websites to choose from. Saves you the hassle of having to google torrent websites.
Or might I suggest getting the android box? They even have TVfrog which is a box you buy and download kodi on it and same thing. Anything you want for free. you only need to buy the tvfrog.
I personally use kodi...

I gave up on Torrents a long time ago for a couple of reason. One being the sites going down all the time.

Storage was another one. Kodi is just the way to go now. $100 for a box if you don't have a computer to download it from.

Being a bit of an old fogey and a luddite, for tv shows that I know exist and watch regularly, I use an old fashioned method based on an old but still existing internet area called the "usenet"

It has been around for at least 30 years, and consists of various "newsgroups" pertaining to all sorts of different interests. Some are forums, like terb, on many different subjects. Others are binary mulitimedia groups.

The primary newsgroup I subscribe to is called "alt.binaries.teevee". It is a multimedia group and many current tv episodes are posted on a daily basis, usually within hours of being aired by the networks, and cable channels such as HBO, etc.

Once I download them, using a "newsreader program" (the one I use is called "Agent"), I decompress them to video files, which I then either burn to a dvd or just copy to a usb key for viewing on my large screen tv. (I don't like watching tv shows on a 15" computer screen.)

Old fashioned and labour intensive I know, but quite reliable and virus-free.

I rely on torrents to download theatrical movies and tv shows of which I was not previously aware, or cannot be found on the usenet, especially if I want to download earlier than current episodes.

For what its worth....

I think you should try downloading Kodi. You may be surprised at how you like. I had my dad watching the first ever episode of Star Trek not to long ago. He was hooked.

However, I do know and understand the pleasure of doing things the manual and as you say, old fashioned and labour intensive, way. Sometimes what has always worked is the route to go. LOL

And for anyone using Kodi - you will have to do the upgrade to 17. whatever they are on now. Most sites are going https secure and the old software is not able to take it apparently. You will start to get major glitches. People who use to use Genesis and then went to Exodus will under the glitches. So if you are lazy like me {I have kodi hooked up to every TV in the house, so lots of upgrading} you have a bit of time, but when you start getting those "no stream available" or less and less streams listed, you know it is time.

That site is sooooo bad for virus. I think anyone who is a true downloader stopped using that site a long time ago sweetie.
i have used thepiratebay.org for about 14 years now. i have never had a virus from that site. if you're only downloading movies,tv shows, music and books you shouldn't have any problems, however if you download games and programs there is a good chance to get a virus but that pertains to all torrent sites. my primary site was extratorrent with piratebay my secondary source.

globally thepiratebay is currently ranked at 102 and in the USA ranked 62 and in Canada it is the 34th most popular website

If you're going to buy a kodi box, be careful, not all boxes support kodi 17 (the latest) they would have to support minimum android lollipop 5. Some addons won't work with Kodi 16.

I have an Android box myself but be careful, apparently the U.S. government and the movie studios are setting up add-ons to see who is streaming the illegal content. A buddy of mine received an e-mail from Bell saying that his IP address was tagged by a U.S. studio. I doubt they'll fine or anyone but the actual person who is hosting the stream but just a word of caution if you're using it for illegal content.

For the torrent lovers, I have found that eztv.it and torrentdwnloads.me have been great for my non-sports TV needs and yts.ag for my movie needs.

These warnings are meaningless in Canada. ISPs are obligated by law to forward the warning to you from the studio, but that's it. They do this with torrents too.
Also, I believe that Canadian courts ruled that streaming is not the same as downloading and saving a file, so streaming is technically legal.

I'm surprised that content producers don't hack these sites/tools

I've been using Pirate Bay for years and have never got a virus, stick to ettv and a few other solid ones and there's no problem.
