It's a civil lawsuit outside the NHL. I heard the linesman's career is pretty much over, he should be compensated.

While I agree that the hit on the linesman was unwarranted, this lawsuit is a very American thing to do. I don't see how his career is over after this, as many a linesman and referee has taken more of a hit and didn't have any issues.

Crosschecked hard from behind, face first, into the boards?
Can you provide a few examples?

From Henderson's representatives:

The hit left Henderson with a concussion, a neck injury that required surgery, as well as “pain and numbness in his right arm and hand, an injury to his right knee, headaches, anxiety and depression.”

Terrible, just terrible. Look at all the damage sustained by Dr. Dao and he wasn't hit with a hockey stick from behind by a 200 lb hockey player. This should be a lesson to all athletes and office co-workers.

So if others didn't have issues, does this imply that his injuries are not real. Not sure what else can be inferred from your comment.

Don Henderson still hasn't recovered from his injuries, it's probably career ending.

The lawsuit is nothing more than a means to pay for costs for medical and loss of pay from employment, as it would appear that they don't have a system for this within their own employment as NHL officials. OHL officials usually take out their own insurance to cover costs if this happens, but many OHL officials have primary employment where they may or may not have benefits to cover these things. I would hazard a guess that Mr Henderson does not have an insurance policy for such things, which is why he's suing.

Of course, until the lawsuit has come to its outcome, Mr Henderson has to play this to the end, where he is unable to function normally because of the hit. He's looking for an out of court settlement, which is quicker and comes with no scrutiny on him while this happens.

looks like undisclosed multi million $ settlement. Definite intent to hit the ref from Wideman which resulted in a more serious injury than he intended. Wideman should be and deserves to be sued. He knows the rules and will pay for his goon stupidity.

It's too bad the NHL could not hand out a harsher suspension. Wideman got his suspension reduced which was a farce. Players can never touch an official, even if their blind as a bat sometimes.
