Wow McDavid wins MVP over Crosby. Not a close race but not a landslide either. I guess Crosby can cry into his two Staney Cup wins.
Awesome Matthews wins Calder as expected of a rookie 40 goal scorer.
Maybe the only slight surprise was Tortorella winning Adams over Babcock.

Crosby can cry into his three Stanley Cups wins lol, I am glad that Crosby did not win the MVP. You should look at Crosby face when McDavid won the the MVP. Crosby face was priceless lol.
The two YOUNG LADS Auston Matthews and Connor McDavid will rule the NHL for the next 10- 15 years. I think Connor McDavid will be better than crybaby Crosby.

You'd probably feel differently of Crosby if he won 3 cups for your team.

Sidney Crosby is the only player in NHL history to have multiple Olympic gold medals, multiple Stanley Cup rings, multiple Conn Smythe Trophy's and multiple Hart Trophy's. You call him a cry baby I call him a winner.

McDavid was a deserving winner nonetheless.

Both are explosive players who were keys to pulling their teams into the playoffs.

Crosby: 44G, 45A
McDavid: 30G, 70A

Though CM had the big lead in points 100 vs 89, there's always higher value given to goals. Since you can have upto 2 assists on a given, goals are considered about 1.5X assists.

SC: 66 + 45 = 111
CM: 45 + 70 = 115

Pretty much dead even with Crosby doing it in 7 fewer games.

So it comes down to the current superstar vs the next one; reminds me of the Gretzky vs Lemieux MVP contest way back. Mario had the better all-round numbers but the voters gave the MVP to Gretz for all that he did for the game.

I also think voters will have the image of SC hoisting the Stanly Cup last spring influencing their vote. They shouldn't consider last years playoffs but I think subconsciously it's going to sway the voters. Plus, McDavid plays in a small media market.

I think the betting line is showing about 2:1 in favour of McDavid based on some formula, but I think Crosby could take this one before passing the torch to CM.
There is soo much more to hockey than just points.
There has never been a cup winning team that did not have a huge contribution to the defensive part of the game.

Applying some half assed formula to pick a MVP is a joke.

Connor McDavid = $106 million

Wonder how much Austen Mathews will get?
If his second year is close to what he did this year and the Leafs continue their playoff appearances, his second contract could be in the $10 to $11 million a year range. McDavid is a better player so he deserves to be the highest paid player in the NHL. Toronto is a much stronger hockey market financially than Edmonton but what Edmonton and Toronto have to be careful about is the cap situation. Both teams have great young players but also some deficiencies. You cannot have two or three players on the team taking up too much of the team's cap space and be successful, unless you luck out and are able to find good role players earning the league minimum up to $2 million year.

Compare to MLB players, it appears that NHL players can make bigger money sooner. Of course, there will probably not be a $300 million NHL player anytime soon.
