But the human rights code also applies to a list of other reasons (e.g. race, gender, sexuality, age, disability etc). So what we are talking about is human rights.
Kinda hard to change someone's,..."race, gender, sexuality, age, disability", .. and all confirmable.

If I was to post a sign on my front door that states,..."any person entering these premises must denonce their religion before entering,...as I am non religious,...and don't allow religiuos followers in my home"

So when Bell sends a religious service person to my home to collect their modem,...???

I know its a silly example,...but if religion is being used to fine some one $12,000,...then I have the right also.

You have every right to practice your religion,...but I do NOT have to.

Oh yes, I forgot..... you DON'T make personal posts. Yet you ask people go "go back to school"

Let it go.

And you need to relax. I was being honest. I am glad you were seeking opinions/doing research.
You need to relax,...I did not post,..."go back to school" to you.

so are you saying unlike gender etc. religion should not be a human right be cause you can choose your religion? otherwise not sure why you point out thst difference please clarify.

if i walk barefoot in a house i am no more muslim than you. you are not practicing religion.

it is about respecting the persons right to be different from you and being trested as equals.

LOL I'm sorry I don't have time to play ping ping.
fine..... fbi states about 11000 hate offences in 2015.

one "expert" in an hate crime hoax article claims there are dozens to hundreds per year. so lets say dozens to hundreds means 100 to 1000 hoaxes.

That would mean they comprise any where from less than 1 to 10%.

or in other words the 90 to 99% legit victims should not be dismissed.

Didn't say that the religious didn't have the right to practice their religion,...as long as it does NOT effect me,...

Fining some one because they don't have the same beliefs,...is ridiculous,...

I notice that you did not comment on my religious related,...admittedly silly scenario,...but no more silly than the one,... some guy got fined $12,000 for.

And now you are also saying that religious rights don't exist in a rented hotel room,...???

Consider that if the PROPERTY OWNER had service personnel do some work in the holy bedroom with their shoes on,...when the renters were out,...and the renters found out later,...is that against your religious law

And it is NOT about peoples rights to be different,...I could care less,...as long as it does NOT effect me,...

A more accurate comparison would be you asking people not to pray in your house (and it would be a reasonable request).

O

OnTheWayOut

Yep definitely. As a woman living alone the more specific notice the better, as like I said it would be super awkward to have a big window and be scared to get changed or use the bathroom etc.
Hell, the realtors had to know what a hottie you are, I'd be tempted to try to get a peek as well!

O

OnTheWayOut

Let's look at it a different way.

IF you had a landlord that refused to take off their shoes and only gave you 24 hours notice. And like this case they did it repeatedly despite your repeated requests.

How would you feel? Would you do anything? Or would you just take it?
I'd drag him to the USA and shoot him!! LOL

You admitted the scenario is silly. I didn't realize I was obligated to answer everything that you write. Sorry.

Look religious rights don't disappear in a hotel room.

What you have to understand is that there are different levels of consideration.

For example, workplace safety trumps religion. A Sikh should wear a hard hat on a construction site.

In your scenario of work being done. Now again it is an issue of workplace safety. A construction site requires steeltoed boots.

So there are limits to human rights laws.

Furthermore, there are also limits depending on how difficult or onerous recognizing that person's belief's would be. Sacrificing a goat under a full moon would be unreasonable to expect a landlord to execute.

There are also limits based on bylaws (e.g. noise complaints..... so blasting prayers on a loudspeaker might be a bit much at 5 in the moring depending on the bylaws of your area)

There are also building codes.... if you want a temple in your home it still has to meet codes.

There are also criminal codes.... if your religion involves human sacrifice.... tough luck.

So you are saying that hotel staff can be forced to remove their shoes for religious reasons,...sure sounds like it,...???
And I don't care if even read my posts,...let alone reply to them,...!!!

Looks like you don't understand,...Sikhs are allowed to ride motor cycles with out a helmet,...so again,...religion wins,...over logic,...and safety.

I said NOTHING about a construction site,...we are talking about the fined property owners bedroom.

This is already a problem in North America,...and again,...the issue is religion,...

did they have proof his shoes were dirty?
If he wore them on the street they will dirty. Many, many people agree. If you tried to wear your shoes into my place I would ask you to leave and if you did not I would physically remove you. It's disgusting.

we live in a pretty cleanly city
Not that clean.

what pattern? he made one joke on facebook?
No one's surprised that a Muslim hater like you is dismissive of racist anti Muslim Facebook posts.

the landlord may have been an asshole, but the fact that he was hit with this huge fine for something so minor
Is doubtful that smaller fine would deter this behavior in him or in others. You own claim that it's minor shows that a large fine is needed to force people like you to comply.

As of this 2014 article Sikhs must wear helmets

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/08/26/ontario-sikh-helmet-law_n_5717595.html

Has it been overturned? Possible, I don't ride bikes nor am I Sikh so I haven't been paying attention. What I can say is that my search engine usually shows most popular and recent hits. Whole first page is on how ON bikers must wear helmets including Sikhs.

I said religious laws don't disappear but they have limits. So in the case of the hotel room you are a "guest" of the hotel. So it follows different rules, laws and expectations than your home.

My point is that in addition to religion.... safety, other's human rights, bylaws, criminal code, workplace laws, home owner's laws, rental agreements etc all come into play. It is a complex equation so there's no hard fast rule. So yes sometimes religion is the highest factor BUT NOT ALWAYS.

It just seems your belief is that religion is a legal slam dunk for justifying any behavior and my point is that there are limits.

It's a good decision. Why couldn't he have removed his shoes and provided the five minutes notice requested?

Your crusade is looking pretty weak here.

I ask people who enter my home to remove their shoes at the front door. These people only required it when entering their bedroom. Seems totally reasonable to me with or without a religion ground.

And five minutes to get properly dressed before strangers come touring through your place? Again, TOTALLY reasonable, even without a religious reason. Tell me you are never sitting around in your underwear in your own home. Everyone does it.

The landlord is an asshole, justice was served.

Sounds like in addition to being an asshole he was a racist posting hate on his Facebook, but you don't even need to go there to see how wrong his actions were.
That is not worth $12,000, its worth an apology at best.
