Question; Where do we draw the line?

Ty Cobb was a racist, should he be kicked out of the MLB HOF?

Thomas Jefferson owned at least one slave, should all his statues be destroyed?

Some people claim that Trudeau the Elder was an anti-semite?
" ************Trudeau himself fully subscribed to these theories and wrote a vehemently anti-Semitic play titled Dupés (meaning "We've been had!")."

Silly me. I thought Ty Cobb was famous for baseball, not his actions in a war to keep slavery.

In this case the statues are not going to be destroyed. They are going to be moved to some sort of museum where the historical context can be better displayed and educated about. I saw them. The language really shouldn't be in a public place.

I think it was a good idea.

Where to draw the line is a good question but clearly these statues promoting the Confederacy are on the wrong side of it.

My opinion too. The South needs to move on. The Civil War was an exciting era in Southern history, but the South should not continue to build its identity around such a divisive act.

Yep, but a huge number of red neck southerners sure do. But hopefully, they are a dying breed.

I seem to recall a great many statues of Nathan Bedford Forrest still in existence and every year they celebrate his birthday down south.

A recent governor of Louisiana is East Indian and a recent governor of South Carolina is a female Sikh.

When it comes to destroying statues, the statue of Oliver Cromwell should be at the top of the list.

When I lived in Quebec some Quebecois wanted to destroy the statue of General James Wolfe.

He's only really famous for one thing: fighting for slavery.
Which merely shows that you don't know much about the man. For instance that he was offered command of the Union Army, and only refused when Virginia seceded, a decision of which he did not support.

Which by the way once again goes to how "The United States are" as opposed to "The United States is" was quite real.

He's not famous for having declined to lead the anti slavery army. He's famous for having led the pro slavery one.

Here's history: the Confederate army led by Lee fought to preserve slavery and, no doubt to your chagrin, lost.
Cool story bro. In case you need a lesson in slavery history, the REPUBLICANS fought to end slavery the Dems are the slave owner. Just saying...

That's true, but by the 1960s the roles reversed. The Democrats led the civil rights movement and the Republicans fought for segregation.

FALSE. Try looking up how many Republican's voted for that vs the Democrats votes. I realise the Democrats LOVE to take credit for it, but it's simply not true. I'll be waiting.

Southern Democrats: 1–20 (5–95%)
Southern Republicans: 0–1 (0–100%)
Northern Democrats: 45–1 (98–2%)
Northern Republicans: 27–5 (84–16%)
