"The paper likened the aircraft carrier to a "gross animal" and said a strike on it would be "an actual example to show our military's force"."

Not to mention a death sentence for NK........... this guy is the dimmest bulb in centuries.
Problem is it would be a death sentence for South Korea as well. The North would be defeated, but not before obliterating Seoul. That's the real problem. Otherwise they'd have been dealt with long ago.

The whole North Korean mess can be laid at the feet of Joseph Vissarionovich Dzhugashvili (Stalin)

So would have preferred to have all of Asia over run by a system of government that has to put up walls to keep their population from running away,...???

The Great Wall was built to keep the Mongols from invading China.

Somehow I rather doubt you go around introducing yourself (other than perhaps at TERB parties) as Danmand anymore than I do as Aardvark.

Lenin, Stalin, even to a lesser extent Trotsky (Trinity) are all made-up names.

As I posted, your knowledge of Russian leaders names is amazing. Have you considered lecturing at U of T?

PS: I do not go to Terb parties (anymore). I avoid fistfights.

Yeah, I don't think so, but just trying would be an end of regime act....

As someone else said, Seoul would pay the price.

IMHO Kim Jong-un is all talk. He's sabre rattling to see what he can get. He'd only attack if he felt he was personally in danger. Trump is right, the NK situation needs to be dealt with and his initial approach of pushing China hard is appropriate.

American Admirals are not stupid. They will not place the Carrier Battle Group close enough to NK to put it in harm's way. Neither the NK air force or surface Navy are much of a threat, although I guarantee CAPs and AWACS have been doubled. The fleet certainly won't be letting any civilian ships within 20 miles. The NK submarine fleet is a potential threat as they have quite a few fairly modern diesel boats equipment with Chinese sensors and torpedos. American CBGs have already been shown to be vulnerable to diesel subs. Kim has nukes, but limited delivery platforms .... but I just can't see him using them unless he felt assassination or invasion was imminent.

Having the USS Michigan making a port visit in SK is interesting. Michigan is a SSGN that carries ~150 Tomahawks. Normally a missile boat would NEVER EVER come to the surface in hostile territory, especially without close support from destroyers or cruisers as they are defenceless in port, on the surface or in shallow water. I think this was a stop-gap until the CBG got closer.

You make a lot of good points, I agree Kim is likely bluffing. Problem is he is so inept he just may get his country leveled. Just shows there are idiots in every part of the globe.

Agreed.

Or one of his generals ties a coup and things get out of hand - I doubt they have many nuke safeguards. Or some of his miniaturized nukes or dirty bombs get into the hands of terrorists. Since he's rushing bomb building there could be a nuclear accident. So much could go wrong.
