I have to agree. Maybe The Guess Who and Neil Young a close second. Even Gene Simmons called them the Canadian Led Zeppelin. Rush toured with KISS often, KISS would have sex with women, drugs and booze in their hotel and Rush would just be watching TV. LOL! The song Working Man launched their commercial success when it got air play in Cleveland. Now it has come full circle as they are now in the Rock in Roll Hall of Fame (2013) in Cleveland.

Still love rush.
Play it often on my home system.
2112 on my PSB speakers in 6.1 is amazing.
Pretty sure the neighbours hate it.. Lol

I'd probably agree although The Guess Who & The Tragically Hip are in the same conversation.

I'm old.

I was at the New Year's Eve 1980 show. Kim Mitchell abused Terry Watkinson to his breaking point and he left Max Webster. Another band opened for them.

I'd go Hip based on my tastes. But Guess Who, Rush and Neil Young have had more influence on the music landscape.

It's tough I mean when we talk greatest what is the criteria..... if it is record sales then does a guy like Bieber enter the conversation?

Rush to me is a music nerd band with a largely male following. Nothing wrong with that but I feel a great band should have broader appeal.

But that's just my two cents and it really doesn't mean anything. lol

My vote for greatest Canadian Band would go to Lighthouse, but maybe they were more of a rock orchestra than a rock band?

Obviously it is a matter of taste but IMO, the most influential ("greatest" is much too subjective and for many is interchangeable with "favourite") Canadian musical artists are Neil, The Band, Joni Mitchell, Oscar Peterson and Leonard Cohen. All them impacted generations of subsequent artists as well as progressing their particular genres of music. In fact, The Band is credited with originating what is currently called "Americana".

As popular as they are, I've never been a huge fan. But I'm in the minority. The one time I decided to blast Tom Sawyer in my house, somebody threw a giant rock thru my window just so they could hear it better.

You left someone out who did more to put Canada on the musical map than anyone. Made the very first commercial stereo recording, name a musician who doesn't listen to Glenn Gould - Neil Young and Niel Peart do.

Paradise by the dashboard light.
Rush songs are known to be the most complicated tunes to master. Here's one with the drums - LA VILLA STRANGIATO :
