Hi guys,

I'm new to the whole "hobbying scene. Looking to take the plunge, but I'm concerned with catching an STD. I've read a lot about preventing them and keeping yourself safe but there are std's like HSV-2 and HPV that can be transimitted while using protection since they are skin to skin based. Even if there aren't any symptoms, viral shedding is still a way of infecting a person when a condom is being used. I've only had one partner my entire life and so I am completely STD free.

How concerned are you guys with catching stuff like syphilis, HPV, HSV-2 when there's no 100% sure way of protecting yourself from it? Because HPV and HSV-2 is for life, there's no antibiotic to get rid of it, there's always the risk of transmitting it to someone else.

A lot of married guys on here and have so much to lose, what kind of precautions do you guys take to protect yourself as much as possible?

You have a better chance of catching something eating a McDonald's burger.

Advice to you...Stay away from this hobby! Guaranteed you won't catch anything, but no guarantees you'll catch it elsewhere.

Most women in this hobby are young enough to have received the Gardasil 4 vaccine, which protects against 90% of strains that cause visible HPV warts. So getting visible warts through skin-to-skin contact is a lot less of a risk than it used to be. It's not designed to prevent all strains of HPV that cause all cancers. If you're worried about the risk of getting a throat HPV infection, get the better Gardasil 9 vaccine yourself. It's a little expensive.

If you're playing completely safely (this includes CBJ), herpes is the most serious real risk. Someone posted this the other day which looked at HSV-1 and HSV-2 rates among sex workers who use condoms consistently: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2870498/ I won't comment. It's obviously a risk you take. You can also get trichomoniasis by skin-to-skin contact, but that one's easier to explain away to your spouse.

The only thing I've ever gotten from this hobby is chlamydia, and that was from an unprotected pussyslide from an MPA. Fortunately my spouse knew about that particular MPA visit in advance.

Here
I have been involved in the hobby for almost 30 years and have never caught anything however I have gotten a few things from civilians.I find that SPS (for the most part) take much better care of themselves than civilians.

Hi guys,
How concerned are you guys with catching stuff.
The most basic answer relates back to the saying of "actions talk louder than words". We all hobby.

Just because you've had only one partner your entire life does not necessarily mean you are STI free, or free of diseases that can be transmitted sexually, even if you've had no symptoms.

"How concerned are you guys with catching stuff...". This varies widely from individual to individual. Some guys have no concerns about anything. Some are afraid to leave the house. You must weigh for yourself the risks vs rewards & come to your own personal decision.

How young is young enough to have received the vaccine?
That's a good question. I might have over-estimated it. The program started in 2007, and happens in grades 6 and 8. So it's mostly providers around age 21 or so that would have gotten it in school. Another thing I didn't know is that Toronto has a lot lower percentage uptake than the rest of the province... only about 55-65% of girls have been getting the vaccine in Toronto. (Maybe it's related to cultural demographics? Maybe there are more anti-vaxxers in Toronto?)

Well, my girlfriend and I had been together since grade 9. We were the first person each of us had kissed and haven't been with anyone else. So I think it's safe to say I don't have any sti's, I've never even had a cold sore.

Stupid question, when going to the clinic do they just do a panel of tests or do you have to request specific ones?
If you go to the public clinics and you're male, they'll do a urine-based gonhorrea and chlamydia test and may do blood-based syphilis and HIV tests if you have risk factors. They never test males for trich; if they think you have symptoms they'll just give you Flagyl. Unlike some stuff you may read about from the US, public clinics here don't do HSV tests unless you have open sores. If you go to your family doctor you can get broader stuff done (HSV blood testing, trich, etc.).

Most people I know got STI's before they were in this industry.. and looking back when I was a civilian we definitely didn't take precautions or weren't safe at all. Now Most SP's I know visit the hassle free clinic regularly and are diligent about being safe. As for my friends outside the business... they are constantly engaging in unprotected sex with randoms.

"Most oral and genital herpes infections are asymptomatic."

"HSV-1 is mainly transmitted by oral-to-oral contact to cause oral herpes (which can include symptoms known as “cold sores”), but can also cause genital herpes."

"An estimated 3.7 billion people under age 50 (67%) have HSV-1 infection globally."

I remember reading somewhere that you're safer going to see a woman who works for a reputable escort agency then you are some random bar pick-up.

So you're monogamous and only made love to one woman in your lifetime.

WTF are you doing on an escort review board then? Judging our infidelity???

Hepatitis B can be serious affecting the liver etc.

All non-monogamous adults should get the Hepatitis B vaccine. I did a few years ago.

Obviously since I value my health I always use condoms and would never consider anything bare. I also value women who always practice safer sex with protection.

Naked=fun, you can be as safe as you want to be. You can do everything from condoms/safer sex - - straight through to I won't kiss, I won't lick, if is isn't covered it isn't touching you.

Then again if you are going to be totally paranoid why hobby?

Hepatitis vaccinations are an excellent idea.

I remember reading somewhere that you're safer going to see a woman who works for a reputable escort agency then you are some random bar pick-up.
People in bars tend to drink, get drunk & not practice safe sex, e.g. forget to use the condom or put it on improperly.

So you're monogamous and only made love to one woman in your lifetime.

WTF are you doing on an escort review board then? Judging our infidelity???
This was already explained in his OP.
