Congrats to Roger. It is a young man's game and I was on record saying he'd never win another major because of rigors of the 2 weeks.

The level of tennis was high and there were some amazing points. The only thing that would have made it better would have been closer sets. No tie breaks and no "extra innings" in the 5th. I felt the only real tension was in the 5th set. Roger missing some break points and some match points and needing 2 breaks. Nadal is known for his dogged determination and today was no different but Roger out-Nadalled him in the end for a change. He won more big points. Nadal had some moments near the end where he was looking worn down. Roger looked fresher.

Still, the only calendar grand slam by Rocket Rod. Nobody else has done it even once and he did it twice.
I know your passion for Roger Rod is as great as mine is for Roger and I will not attempt to convince you otherwise but Roger has many " only one man in tennis has done this " on his resume and by winning today he puts " 1st man in tennis history to win 5 Grand Slam titles at 3 different events "

Djokovich and Murray must be sickened by all this. If only.....

Seems taking the break has really helped Federer and Nadal (to a slightly less degree).

Good to see Dimitrov nearly getting it done though.

If Nadal can stay healthy he could win the French Open again. He use to own the French Open.

Sheer and utter brilliance by Fed. He did not allow Rafa to play his long rallies or develop a rhythm, choosing instead to go for winners even if he often did not pull them off. Only in the 5th when he was not at risk of running out of energy, did he engage in long rallies, and here he out did Nadal at his own game. He threw so many tactic at Nadal, the odd drop shot that I don't think won a single point, yet kept Nadal guessing. Serve and volley. (pretty successful but not overused) and found his best serve when he needed it most. When both were playing their best, Fed was the better player. He found his best game long enough to get it done. It was a fantastic match. The best for quite a while. Its really special when those two play in a Slam Final. This lived up to every possible hype.

Its a great rivalry, and the quality of tennis in the 5th set was incredible, stupendous I am out of superlatives. Anyway I hope tennis fans enjoyed it as much as I did. I really thought Fed was done after being broken in the first game of the 5th. Then that titanic struggle when he eventually broke to serve for the set. That game was soooooo good. WOW!! What I really enjoyed was how Fed was able to regain his confidence and not allow Nadal in his head. The movement, shots, serving, volleys, wow wow wow. It was a complete showcase of incredible skill.

One week later I am still ticked pink about that amazing tennis match. WOW!! reading all the opinions from the pundits saying it was the most important match, perhaps ever made me really glad I watched it live. That amazing 26 shot rally for the important break point. Just the sheer quality of the the tennis was unreal. Of course watching Fed be so real, humble yet beaming with pride at the same time is really a treat. I really find it hard to think of anyone that has dominated a sport with such class and grace. He is the champion of champions IMHO. Perhaps the greatest sporting personality since Ali. (not that Ali was humble lol)

Australian Open champion Roger Federer suffered a shock defeat by Russian qualifier Evgeny Donskoy in the Dubai Championships second round.

Federer lost 3-6 7-6 (9-7) 7-6 (7-5) to the world number 116.

This follows an earlier exit for Wawrinka.

Topsy turvy world of tennis continues.

Heard Milos was in the finals of some recent tournament and defaulted due to injury. Why is he always getting hurt?

Nadal in a Final and Andy Murray wins and so some familiar names still made it to the Finals in their respective tourneys ..

Indian Wells draw has Novak Djokovic, Nadal, Federer, Juan Martin del Potro, Nick Kyrgios and Zverev all in the same (bottom) quarter. That would have made for an interesting Australian Open!

Bet Murray can't believe his luck.

Murray was in disbelief which is probably why he lost to Popisil in straight sets
