Where are the rising 19, 20, 21 year olds? Pete Sampas won his first major at 19. Jimmy Conners won his first major at age 21. Bjorn Borg was called "Teen Angel" at age 17. Micheal Chang won the French at age 17.
Sascha Zverev, Nick Kyrgios, Dominic Thiem to name a few. They are rising stars at the ages you talked about but expecting them to win slams at this age doesn't make sense because the sport has CHANGED dramatically since Chang and Samparas and Becker won as teens. The game is way more physically and mentally demanding now.

Make no mistake - the rising stars are there , but teenagers winning slams will be unlikely in this era of tennis.

There's a level of professionalism in today's tennis that is making it difficult for the young guns to break through. Just check out the size of the entourages of today's players. Trainers/Nutritionists/Masseuses and a coach

Not sure about now but the young Maria Sharapova was "owned" by a corporation. The corporation paid to bring her over from Russia, gave her the best training that money could buy and paid all her living and tour expenses.

Coric knocks out Murray in last 16 in the Madrid open. Murray will therefore lose almost a thousand points.

Big chance now for Djokovich to narrow the gap if he can get to the final.

Djokovich beaten in the quarters by Thiem, who won in three straight sets - last one 6 - 0! Could end up outside the top 4 after the Paris Masters.

Semis are Thiem/Nadal and Murray/Wawrinka which are on Friday.

Well it looks like Nadal is back to being the King of Clay. He's putting absolute beatdowns on guys. Amazing how first Federer and now Nadal have re-invigorated their games. Hope it's a good match tomorrow. I think Wawrinka will have to bring all of his massive power to stay in it, He's done it before in finals but I do think Nadal will prevail as his court coverage is too good right now.

Should be a great Wimbledon. I'm guessin that Fed will be the favourite but the field is pretty open this year

I love the fact Nadal passed Pete .. Nadal has playet a lot of tennis so far this year ... His body may not be able to handle it ..

Nadal now number 2. Murray will have to do really well at Wimbledon to stay number 1. One of them will face Djokovich or Wawrinka, as well as Federer in their half of the draw, so a lot depends on the draw.

Good point (no pun intended :)). Actually read a piece the other day in which Nadal stated Wimbledon often gives him problems with his knees because of the lower bounces. Don't imagine the workload he's had this year is going to help that.

On the other hand if his health does hold up I can see Nadal being a factor at Wimby this year, given his level of play recently. Who knows, could be a Fed-Nadal final, depending on how the draw goes! Murray will be in there, perhaps Raonic as a dark horse.

Looks like we will have a new number 1 .. Andy Murray drops out
No. He's pulled out of an exhibition match at Hurlingham (UK) not Wimbledon!

Of course it's always possible that his hip injury will prove more severe than expected, but for the moment he hasn't withdrawn from Wimbledon.

Rafa will soon be number 1

Its just a matter of time before Rafa gets to number 1.
Andy is defending 2000 points in Wimbledon, whereas Rafa does not defend any. If Rafa plays Wimbledon (he has not pulled out yet, but he has not played any grass tournament as well), he has a very good shot at getting to number 1 by the end of Wimbledon or at the latest by the end of Rogers Cup.

Rafa just might do that - he's had a tremendous clay court season and was unstoppable at the French. However Roger has also been enjoying an incredible year (except for hiccup in Stuttgart) and has just as good a chance to get to #1 by the Rogers Cup.

Wouldn't mind seeing those two meet again in the Wimbledon final. Would be quite a shootout!

Not sure about Nadal on grass. Federer will be nicely rested, once again so he'll be hard to beat.

Big questions over the form of Djokovich and Murray.

The draw in Wimbledon does not look that bad for Federer. If he wins this Wimbledon, the rest of the season would be a tussle for number 1 between Roger & Rafa. Since the rest of the year is on hard courts, it would benefit Roger.

Unlikely as Federer will continue to be highly selective with the tournaments he enters. Let's also see whether Nadal's knees stand up to the stress of playing on hard courts and grass. I think it's quite likely he will have periods of fitness problems second half of the year.

Will be hard for Murray to stay number 1, as he has a ton of points to defend from now on. His chances of retaining his Wimbledon title don't look great considering the draw he has and his recent injury.

Could be a come-back time for Djokovich as he has few points to defend the latter part of the year.
