The Clinton Foundation FBI investigation was based on allegations from a dubious book written by a Breitbart 'reporter'.

Trump's now repeating the claim that as president he can't have a conflict of interest, wonder who gave him this advice?
He's also stating that he has zero Russian investments/interests and still refuses to release his taxes.

Nothing new in this presser and nothing that's going to slow the rumours and investigations into this latest report.
How many IRS auditors in the coming years will have to contend with taxpayers saying they'll settle when the President settles? And if.

It doesn't matter much what got the Clinton investigation going at the FBI (there were also unfulfilled Congressional subpoenas in question). The sore point is the appropriate ethics of keeping a public investigation of an official secret, and how an Election affects that. American law enforcement has never established a clear line on such matters, and Comey added his own clumsiness and bad timing to the night and fog.

With the Presidency decided, his official duty must be to protect the new Boss from all suspicion of blackmail, nor can he withhold what little he currently has from the sitting President. Especially considering the fallout from his earlier attempts at news-managing during the campaign, he had little choice but to disclose what he presently has with the minimum of fuss. Now an innocent Trump can carry on, proving his mettle, or a guilty Trump can, Ford-like, have his true character reveal itself over the term. But Comey's done his job and awaits new orders.

The screenshots I saw had Nov 1 as the date, while the blackmail story surfaced in Oct.
But I haven't looked into it much.

Other Trump news today:
States he can't legally be in conflict of interest
Won't divest his business
Won't stop running his business, just foreign deals
Won't release his taxes
Calls CNN fake news
Calls himself an 'asset' if Putin likes him.
Hiring an anti-vaxxer to investigate all vaccine use
States 2017 will be a catastrophe

big day
Not the ones that Ive seen.

We get it, we allllll get it, you hate Trump.

Apparently Trump's new law firm is pretty popular in Putin's Russia as well - where no doubt it represents a number of Little Vlad's other friends too.

In a highly controlled society like Russia, you have to be vetted by the guy at the top to receive prestigious awards. So I guess Putin likes Chambers & Partners a lot. Maybe he even personally recommended them to the Pee-otus.

The FBI is investigating and they gained enough confidence that it's true to include it in the briefing notes they presented to the Senate, the President, and the President-elect.

Now no one on terb will care about golden showers but for the American public that's going to be a shocker.

They also supposedly tried to pay him off a bunch of times but according to this report he didn't take the money. On the other hand he supposedly has a lot closer relationships with the Russians than he lets on and he regularly received information from them about Clinton and others.
Why will it be a shocker? One of the most beloved presidents in recent history, shoved a cigar up the vagina of an intern and smoked it in the oval office while she performed oral sex, and he then ejaculated on her intern dress. ...that is on the public record.

Clinton was an awesome president. If Trump is a pervert, this is a good sign. Much better then some of the dickless wonders that have occupied that office.

Other stories are going further. They say that Trump was in regular contact with Russian intelligence. They say that the Russians tried to give him money but he refused. However they say he agreed to receive regular intelligence materials from Russia.

If this is true he should be charged with treason, and if convicted he should face the death penalty.
So, if Trump refused to accept money from Russia, AND he's receiving intelligence from Russia......how is that treason?
Do you understand the meaning of "treason"?
Next time you open a dictionary to find a word that you think might make you appear knowledgeable ("pettifoggery"), please look up "treason" .

So far, if I'm following everything correctly, the allegations (linked to an investigator who was paid to be biased) are unverified and have been denied by both Trump and the Russians. And it appears CNN was wrong about what was presented to Trump -- it looks like it was only mentioned verbally, rather than in briefing documents.

Furthermore, a number of major news organizations looked into the allegations months ago and couldn't find any facts to verify them.

From the New York Times' article, Questions You May be Asking:

• There are reports that many people in the news media knew about this opposition research on Mr. Trump and Russia for months, but it was never raised during the campaign. Why not?

Many reporters from multiple news organizations tried to verify the claims in the memos but were unsuccessful. That does not mean that none of the claims are true, but most news organizations choose not to publish damaging allegations against a public figure unless they believe them to be true.

We'll see what happens. This sure looks like fake news at this point.

It also fuels the idea that some media are trying to make scandals out of anything by hyping up the "Russia" angle.

Also from the New York Times' article about questions readers may be asking:

• Everyone is talking about this document and passing it around online. Why can’t I read it on your website?

Because the 35 pages of memos prepared as opposition research on Mr. Trump contain detailed claims that neither the intelligence agencies nor The Times have been able to verify, the editors decided to briefly summarize the claims and not publish the document.

• Why did The Times and other outlets report extensively on the hacking of Democratic National Committee and Podesta emails before the election, but not this?

The Times did report before the election that the F.B.I. was investigating claims about Mr. Trump’s ties to Russia – an article that resulted from an extensive reporting effort. The Democratic National Committee and Podesta emails were public, their authenticity was not in doubt and they contained newsworthy information.

He never even ran in 2012. He was flirting with the idea. Sorry, but government (any govt) does not scout and look for the guy with almost no chance of winning. They look at dependable, reliable people to back. Russia would be no different than any of the donors. They would support blue chip candidates like Jeb or Clinton. Russia had a better chance with Ron paul/rand paul back in 2012.
I never said 2012.

That said, doesn't it strike you odd that the guy who had no chance of winning, won and by a very small, small (see what I did there?) margin, since according to what you just said about governments not scouting for anyone with no chance of winning.

None of it makes sense, but, if the allegations in the intelligence reports are true, then Putin has bee playing chess while the U.S. has been playing checkers. LOL

Check and mate!

America is the gift that keeps on giving, comedy gold. lol

These comments are pretty funny coming from someone who lapped up the unverified reports that Anthony Wiener's computer contained proof of Hillary's wrongdoing.

Here is the latest on Hillary's email debacle. Jason Chaffetz, the chairman of the United States House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform.

And there was absolutely nothing incriminating in them. That didn't stop you from claiming otherwise.

LOL First of all Weiner did not have a security clearance to even HAVE those emails, never mind what was in them. Do you get that part?

This reminds me so much of Rob Ford denying he had ever smoked crack.
One major difference is that the reporters who broke the story about the crack video -- Kevin Donovan and Robyn Doolittle -- had actually seen the video and knew their story could be verified.

By contrast, there seems to be a lot of doubt about this story. A number of reporters from leading news organizations apparently looked into the allegations and couldn't find anything to verify them.

So that is the plan for the next four years? Fabricate stories and release them as unverified to avoid lawsuits and being labeled as fake news? LOL

Actually the news is credible. All the sources are validated. It's just that no confirmation has surfaced of the actual allegations themselves- yet. And the allegations themselves are fairly moderate. Nothing about Trump having massive private financial dealings with Putin or personal face to face meetings or taking massive bribes. Surely if the source was trying to discredit Trump or make a ton of cash, the report would be far more sensational and accusatory.
The "news is credible" but the "allegations are not confirmed".

You're taking that lawyer double speak thing a little too far. I'm not sure you even know what you're trying to say anymore.

DNI Clapper Statement on Conversation with President-elect Trump

This evening, I had the opportunity to speak with President-elect Donald Trump to discuss recent media reports about our briefing last Friday. I expressed my profound dismay at the leaks that have been appearing in the press, and we both agreed that they are extremely corrosive and damaging to our national security.

We also discussed the private security company document, which was widely circulated in recent months among the media, members of Congress and Congressional staff even before the IC became aware of it. I emphasized that this document is not a U.S. Intelligence Community product and that I do not believe the leaks came from within the IC. The IC has not made any judgment that the information in this document is reliable, and we did not rely upon it in any way for our conclusions. However, part of our obligation is to ensure that policymakers are provided with the fullest possible picture of any matters that might affect national security.

President-elect Trump again affirmed his appreciation for all the men and women serving in the Intelligence Community, and I assured him that the IC stands ready to serve his Administration and the American people.

CNN)Classified documents presented last week to President Obama and President-elect Trump included allegations that Russian operatives claim to have compromising personal and financial information about Mr. Trump, multiple US officials with direct knowledge of the briefings tell CNN.
The allegations were presented in a two-page synopsis that was appended to a report on Russian interference in the 2016 election. The allegations came, in part, from memos compiled by a former British intelligence operative, whose past work US intelligence officials consider credible. The FBI is investigating the credibility and accuracy of these allegations, which are based primarily on information from Russian sources, but has not confirmed many essential details in the memos about Mr. Trump.
The classified briefings last week were presented by four of the senior-most US intelligence chiefs -- Director of National Intelligence James Clapper, FBI Director James Comey, CIA Director John Brennan, and NSA Director Admiral Mike Rogers.

One reason the nation's intelligence chiefs took the extraordinary step of including the synopsis in the briefing documents was to make the President-elect aware that such allegations involving him are circulating among intelligence agencies, senior members of Congress and other government officials in Washington, multiple sources tell CNN.
These senior intelligence officials also included the synopsis to demonstrate that Russia had compiled information potentially harmful to both political parties, but only released information damaging to Hillary Clinton and Democrats. This synopsis was not an official part of the report from the intelligence community case about Russian hacks, but some officials said it augmented the evidence that Moscow intended to harm Clinton's candidacy and help Trump's, several officials with knowledge of the briefings tell CNN.
The two-page synopsis also included allegations that there was a continuing exchange of information during the campaign between Trump surrogates and intermediaries for the Russian government, according to two national security officials.
Sources tell CNN that these same allegations about communications between the Trump campaign and the Russians, mentioned in classified briefings for congressional leaders last year, prompted then-Senate Democratic Leader Harry Reid to send a letter to FBI Director Comey in October, in which he wrote, "It has become clear that you possess explosive information about close ties and coordination between Donald Trump, his top advisors, and the Russian government -- a foreign interest openly hostile to the United States."
CNN has confirmed that the synopsis was included in the documents that were presented to Mr. Trump but cannot confirm if it was discussed in his meeting with the intelligence chiefs.
The Trump transition team declined repeated requests for comment.
CNN has reviewed a 35-page compilation of the memos, from which the two-page synopsis was drawn. The memos originated as opposition research, first commissioned by anti-Trump Republicans, and later by Democrats. At this point, CNN is not reporting on details of the memos, as it has not independently corroborated the specific allegations. But, in preparing this story, CNN has spoken to multiple high ranking intelligence, administration, congressional and law enforcement officials, as well as foreign officials and others in the private sector with direct knowledge of the memos.
Some of the memos were circulating as far back as last summer. What has changed since then is that US intelligence agencies have now checked out the former British intelligence operative and his vast network throughout Europe and find him and his sources to be credible enough to include some of the information in the presentations to the President and President-elect a few days ago.
On the same day that the President-elect was briefed by the intelligence community, the top four Congressional leaders, and chairmen and ranking members of the House and Senate intelligence committees -- the so-called "Gang of Eight" -- were also provided a summary of the memos regarding Mr. Trump, according to law enforcement, intelligence and administration sources.
The two-page summary was written without the detailed specifics and information about sources and methods included in the memos by the former British intelligence official. That said, the synopsis was considered so sensitive it was not included in the classified report about Russian hacking that was more widely distributed, but rather in an annex only shared at the most senior levels of the government: President Obama, the President-elect, and the eight Congressional leaders.
CNN has also learned that on December 9, Senator John McCain gave a full copy of the memos -- dated from June through December, 2016 -- to FBI Director James Comey. McCain became aware of the memos from a former British diplomat who had been posted in Moscow. But the FBI had already been given a set of the memos compiled up to August 2016, when the former MI6 agent presented them to an FBI official in Rome, according to national security officials.
The raw memos on which the synopsis is based were prepared by the former MI6 agent, who was posted in Russia in the 1990s and now runs a private intelligence gathering firm. His investigations related to Mr. Trump were initially funded by groups and donors supporting Republican opponents of Mr. Trump during the GOP primaries, multiple sources confirmed to CNN. Those sources also said that once Mr. Trump became the nominee, further investigation was funded by groups and donors supporting Hillary Clinton.
Spokespeople for the FBI and the Director of National Intelligence declined to comment. Officials who spoke to CNN declined to do so on the record given the classified nature of the material.
Some of the allegations were first reported publicly in Mother Jones one week before the election.
One high level administration official told CNN, "I have a sense the outgoing administration and intelligence community is setting down the pieces so this must be investigated seriously and run down. I think [the] concern was to be sure that whatever information was out there is put into the system so it is evaluated as it should be and acted upon as necessary."
