I'll start by saying I hope Joey Bats stays!!!!!!

The lad may have had an off-season, but I think he might have another year or two left in him

I am with you on Bautista. even if they sign him they still need another corner OF ,a back up catcher , and some bullpen help especially a reliable lefty. thought they would go after Revere but never heard of them even talking to him. Hope they are not going to depend on Upton and Smoak as bats off the bench!

There must be more to Revere than we've heard
IMO #1 priority a strong 2nd catcher! If Russ goes down we are screwed !!

The issue with Revere is he's very much a question mark heading into 2017. Injury plagued season with really poor numbers.
Speedy players sometimes never recover from injuries. He doesn't hit well enough where lack of speed would be irrelevant.
He's got no power. Strictly a spray hitter that legs out singles and doubles.
Jays already have questionable outfielders in Upton , Carrera and Pompey

Don't like the Pearce move at all. Seems like we were tripping over ourselves to sign this guy. Oh yeah, another right handed bat as well.

They still could've signed EE even with Morales in the fold had they not wasted $6 mil on this stiff.

That's your #1 priority?!?

How about replacing Bautista and Edwin???

Or someone who can steal bases and hit???

Or someone who can get a lot of hits??
Or someone that can stop the other team from getting hits .. like middle relief ??

I admit I am a little pissed at the new management and Rogers for letting Edwin get away. He was floating out there and you know those 40+ homer / 127 RBI would prefer Toronto if a similar offer was made. The Jays must be a gold mine for Rogers when they are winning. We probably have the largest fan base because we are a National team whose fans are found in farthest regions of away games. We should be more aggressive than Boston, LA, Chicago or Cleveland but I get the feeling that they are budgeting for a winning team not a championship team.

Could be just me but I'm not anywhere near as thrilled for the start of the season as I was a year ago.

I think the attendance totals at the end of the year will show you are not alone.

I do not understand the mentality. It could be that Shapeero's ego dictates that it is a team that he built himself, and not use the core that AA had left him. It's probably actually why AA left the team.

It wasn't just a money issue. At least according to sources. He turned down more for cleveland as he saw them winning. His manager also mentioned taxes and Trump as reasons as well.

Who knows. Maybe EE didn't want to come back for some reason. We can't say for sure. Morales was a good signing. I think his numbers will go up because of the Rogers centre.

Not a lot out there to sign really.

There's no doubt this management group came into a tough situation, but regardless, they should have made a decision, either keep going and go all in, or tear it down and build your own team. These guys seem to be somewhere in the middle and because of this, the jays will go back to being .500 team they were for the last 20 years.

Having all that said, I've been surprised many times before how quick a team has a few tricks up there sleeve, make a few moves and all of a sudden, they're a playoff team.

On Jan. 5 2017 former Jay and fan favourite EE officially joins Cleveland, mean while Cleveland North announces the signing (to a minor league deal) of Gavin Floyd!

Keep going with what? The decline of this team was inevitable and unavoidable after AA left.

The problem is you can't go "all in" when you have zero prospect capital to trade, you had a prior GM who failed to develop any positional prospects over a 5 year period, and a budget that does not allow you to increase your payroll with the oldest team and oldest core in baseball. There is no cheap or easy way to fill open spots on your roster when you have no quality young players to come up and fill your holes. Right now any hole on this team that needs to be filled needs to be funded externally which is the most terrible way to try to build a sustainable team while on a budget. AA crushed the team's flexibility with an old core and a few bad contacts.

Let's remember that Russell Martin was making $7 million in 2015 and $20 million in 2017. That type of salary structure is a crippling under a budget team with an old core, especially given all the holes and free agents that were becoming due at the end of 2016. It was a short sighted signing that helped in 2015, but hurt in 2017.

The team's inevitable fall is due to AA's decisions for anyone with good team building sense -- any baseball analyst has or would say the same. And yet you can certainly argue it was all worth it. The 2 past years were very rewarding as a fan and to the organization.

What really hurt during the AA era was the lack of position players the Jays developed. Look at the holes on this team - you have no Outfielders (nor anyone ready to come up). You have an aging catcher who is overpaid at $20M. and have no adequate backup catcher. You have been unable to develop a bat internally who could be a 1b/DH/ corner outfielder type. Over the entire AA reign, he did not develop anyone for any of those roles.

Shatkins have made a few mistakes, but they are doing a fairly good job of trying to sustain this and are doing the best they can to stay relevant while trying to slowly move forward. You could argue that EE >> Morales +Pearce. That I will grant you -- but in terms of wins over the course of a season, that is about a 2 to 3 win difference (statistically anyway).

For all those crapping on Shapiro and Atkins. Where would the Jays have been last year without the great deals granted to Marco Estrada and J.A Happ?
