Say what you want but Joey Bats is still the best-hitting outfielder on the team. He also takes tons of walks. He also still has the most power among all outfielders. He may not be the same player he used to be but he's still their best overall outfielder.

I think that is a classic case of damning someone with faint praise.

yeah and not just that, it's actually not true. In fact, he's probably the worst hitting outfielder on the team.

He's got 22 HR's, average .205 and OPS .312

Kevin Pillar 16 HR's average .258 and a OPS of .716

Ezequiel Carrera 8 HR's average .289 and a OPS .783. with less at bats.

Jose Bautista is currently the worst batting outfielder on the team by a long stretch...lol.

His statement couldn't be further from the truth.

He must have cut his cable and not been watching the 2017 season.

Bautista sucks. Just like Tulo.
The big difference is that JB has been a huge contributor to the team in the past at a reasonable price.

Tulo has been mediocre at best and has been a salary albatross around the Jays' neck.

As such, even though he is well past his prime, JB deserves to be treated and spoken of with respect.

Not much difference between Jose striking out and Barney grounding out.

Shapeero has built quite a team from what AA left him.
Here is what aa left.

No young position players
No major league ready prospects and limited prospect capital
Oldest team in baseball that is right up against their budget

And yet you blame Shapiro. I don't think he had a good offseason in 2017 (he was great in prior year) but this was not a foundation for any fm to retool.

Your blaming of Shapiro is not justified.

Hard to disagree with that! Well said!

Speaking of statements far from the truth, to say Jose Bautista has an OPS of .312 would be a Trump-sized falsehood.
As of today, Jose Bautista's OPS for 2017 is .683, not .312.
Good try, good effort though.

And .683 is at replacement player level.. adds no value to the team.

He has aged rapidly. It happens. Still a great jay who deserves respect.

In the end, Jose will be Jose. His own best friend and his own worst enemy.

I always admired his spunk... but not his arrogance.

Sort of like all of us, eh?

Perry
Speak for yourself. I admired his arrogance as well. If you can back up your arrogance, you're entitled to ride it.

I join with the others who post how much they respect JB! When he leaves MLB officially, I'll pour myself a double and watch that bat flip a dozen or so times and I'll still love it and I'll probably even get a little lump in my throat!

Perennial BJ problem, when compared to the Bosox or the Yanks. Somehow they always seem to find better prospects that we do. Hmmm.....

I thought that number was way to low despite his terrible year, I look at the wrong column. Either way, it's still lower than other two outfielders.

Do you know this for a fact?
Just to clear the air, Shapiro was on the fan 590 and once again confirmed that the Jays aren't in rebuild mode and plan on competing next year. So if there was any doubt about the clubs immediate plans, it can now be put to rest. It's pretty transparent that the organization is terrified they'll lose the hype if they go into full rebuild mode.
