JB leading off in a new look lineup. Worked last year, might as well try again. Leading the Rangers right now.
Donaldson was quoted in the media on monday mentioning that Joey Bats doesn't have the OPS right now to be hitting in the middle of the order. He also mentioned that since there's no one on base it's an exercise in futility to have Smoak hitting all these solo home runs. These are all 'soft' home runs. The batting order has been a constant mess under Gibbons. It's a waste to have Donaldson hit 2nd when 3rd in the line up is what it should be. He signed a two year contract after he won his MVP. Basically, he's giving the Jays a chance to be contenders and if they don't deliver, he'll sign elsewhere at the end of this season. That would be horrible. Not only is he a strong and solid player, he also sells a whole lot of jerseys for the team.

What he did monday was light a fire under Gibbon's ass and the team along with it. It was done subtly and without dissing the manager. Kudos. Gibbons let it go for tuesday but he changed things up light last night. We won but not the way we should have. You don't have a 7-0 lead deteriorate into a 7-5 final score. They blew their wad in the 1st two innings and didn't continue to score. It's the manager's job to stoke that fire. Gibbons doesn't have that quality.

This line up works better. Donaldson 3rd, Smoak in Clean Up and switch hitting Morales in the protection spot behind Smoak. Anyone could have seen this is what should have been done six weeks ago. It still needs tweaking but it works. The pitching needs to step it up a level also.

I'm starting to wonder, should we just dump Travis and keep Goins at 2nd base??
I would have said YES before he got (re-)injured. He's made of glass and is injury prone. My thought was to trade him closer to the trade deadline for someone eager to pay a premium for him. That's out the window now as his fragile nature has been (re-)exposed.

Don't get me wrong, I like him and he's good at the plate. But once you factor in how much time he misses and what you could get for him in return when other teams are desperate (unfortunately not so much now that he's out), the smart play would have been to trade him.

Goins is a great fielder. I think his improvement at the plate is an anomaly but last year could have just been due to intermittent play. He can also bunt (something Travis sucks at).

This is a false statement.
If Josh Donaldson wants to play Major League baseball in 2018, it will be with the Toronto Blue Jays unless they trade his rights.

Just throwing this out for you..... This actually happened.

Driving along Dundas West this AM and I see a car with Texas plates and a Blue Jays sticker on the bumper. I kind of wondered how that guy has survived into adulthood.

Is this the same Steve Pearce who went 3 for 3 in the win and over his past 5 games has gone 9 for 17 with 6 RBI's with a home run and 2 doubles and 4 runs scored.

And yet you only posted it now. Funny how that works...
Sure.

I discuss it with the Baseball aficionados I watch games with. Just because I didn't post it here doesn't mean I haven't talked about with others. I'm sure posting on terb is not a priority to you, as it also isn't mine.

I love discussing Baseball and I would do it more. Some of the posters in this thread are very knowledgeable about the game. Others, well...sometimes I'm just astounded at the lack of knowledge and brain farting that I read.

Looks like the Jays will lose today, 7-0 Rangers, 4th inning. Damn! This team just can't reach .500

Interesting piece of trivia during pre game show, the 89 Jays that won the AL east , did not reach .500 until August 16th.

Texas is getting a new stadium. They opened there stadium 5 years after the skydome was opened and they're about to lap us in terms of modern day baseball stadiums. The stadium will be ready by 2020.

Not so fast now, its 7-4 in the 6th. Still some faint hope.

César Valdez. Never heard of this guy before. Seems to be doing OK so far

I think Gibby may have benched Donaldson for that little outburst.
He's not playing today (unless of course he's injured)

EDIT: Donaldson has a knee injury

That's absolutely correct. It would be too obvious if he benched him on tuesday. He didn't tweak the batting order until yesterday. The politics of Managing.

Of course he's "injured"

Here
To me, Donaldson's press interview and his not being in the lineup is just another indication of what I have been saying for a long time: there is much more dissension between the players and Gibby than anyone will admit.

Of course the players won't say anything. If they did, they could find it more difficult to find another team...

Time will tell...

And once again our "little" guys are carrying this team (Goins and Barney with 5 game-winning RBI's)
If they are the bashers, then Morales, Bautista, Martin and Smoak and Mirrors need to play small ball and be the table setters.

They are 0-9 in those opportunities to reach .500

If they'd won them all they would be 7 games over.

in 2015, they hovered around .500 until the all-star break. We know what happened in 2015.

Can't believe how people still don't understand just what a marathon a baseball season is.

This is like the equivalent of a pro golfer being 2 or 3 shots back of lead after round 2.

To be two games out of a playoff spot at not even the half way point isn't bad at all.

This is just what baseball wanted when they started to add all these new play off spots/wild cards. Lot's of teams still in it and have a chance. 20 years ago about 22 teams would already be out of the picture.
