It has only been 50 years since the Leafs last sipped from Lord Stanley's mug. Hell, they have not even reached the finals since 1967...

Last year they finished dead last in the NHL. Numerous hockey minds have tried to bring the franchise to the final two, but all have failed for numerous reasons.

With the Golden Knights entering the league, who will either reach the finals or win the cup first - The Leafs or the Golden Knights?

I would like to see the Leafs end their drought, but for some reason they always manage to fuck up a re-build.

I am taking the Knights.

It's not easy to break into the top 6 teams in the league and even harder to win out of those 6. The leafs goal has always been to make the playoffs and never anything higher, top 3 in the conference etc. I see the Leafs as a 5-10 team for the forsee able future, even with the young talent.

The leafs standard is set so low that a cup isn't even on the radar, a playoff appearance is good enough. The leafs are so far from winning 16 playoff games it's not funny, although probably close than lv.

If I had to bet on one Canadian team to win the Cup first it would be between the Habs and the Leafs.

The Habs only because they are the best of the 7 teams currently, and last year may have been an aberration. I am not sure if their window is open that long, or even if they are contenders this year. But you can't ignore who has the best chances in the next few years.

I expect in 3 to 4 years the Leafs will have the best Canadian team. They have good young assets and cap room to fill identified holes when they start to make a push over the next 2 offseasons.

I loved to poke shots at the Leafs Burke era teams (or those a few year after he left). Burke acts like a drunk and makes crazy moves. Phaneuf was a little slow at times and Kessel is just an easy target.

Now I have nothing but respect for the new regime (as of now), and can't say anything about the young core.

I think it could Leafs and Oilers for years to come. Las Vegas could fold (no pun intended) before they even make the playoffs.

If MLSE rehires Richard Peddie, then the Leafs could easily break the Chicago Cubs record for futility. At the moment the Cleveland Browns and the Leafs are first and second on the futility scale. The last time the Browns won the NFL Championship (pre Super Bowl) Jim Brown was their running back. I forgot England's National Team who are sandwiched between the two.

Totally forgot about the Oilers which is an obvious choice as well in terms of the best hope in 3 to 5 years -- late night I suppose.

Do you expect Richard Peddie to live until he is 130 years old?

Richard Peddie is like Keanu Reeves - immortal. And he's actually younger than Lou Lamariello.

I couldn't care less if they Leafs make the playoffs in the next three years as long as they keep building their talent pool. Right now were thin on defense and goalies.

I forgot about the Detroit Lions.

You are incorrect, I.V.

Arizona Cardinals 1947
Cleveland Indians 1948
Sacramento Kings 1951
Toronto Maple Leafs 1967

There are teams in each of the 4 major North American sports who have never won, but those are the 4 longest droughts.

Ok George, but the Cardinals and Indians still got to the Final of their sport. The Browns and the Leafs haven't been to the Final since the late 60's.

Isn't Shaq now part owner of the Sacramento Queens?

St. Louis Blues joined the NHL in 1967 also have never won. So they are the same as the Leafs. Except the Leafs did win in 1967.

Speculate as much as you want but it is silly to think that anyone knows how future events will unfold.

If you actually claim that you really do know, let us all know how much money you've bet on that proposition.

Anyways, don't mind me. Carry on.

Leafs are losers since 1967 and there will never win another Stanley Cup ever again. The Golden Knights will win the cup someday. The only two Canadian teams will have a chances to win the cup is the Habs and Oilers.

There's a sentence, and a coherent thought in there somewhere. I'm sure of it.

Agreed it is all speculation to a degree. But teams can certainly position themselves better to be contenders in the future. That's where the Leafs are at. I know you were fond of the Burke/Kessel/Phaneuf, but it led to one playoff series and not much more -- to be it was going nowhere and the tear down was the best hope moving forward.

I detect a recurring theme with his posts.

I guess my record is unavoidable with the internet.

But the year Burke got fired was their playoff appearance. He had made them a much stronger team (should uv beaten Boston) but was not around to continue. He may have got them there but no way to prove it either way. Nonis did what he did in Vancouver, take a playoff team and then make them worse and worse.

He's a one trick pony. Nothing of substance to contribute, just one line insults.

Don't worry, I have a few checks besides your name on a few Tiger Woods topics -- for example stating about 7-8 years ago that injuries would do him in.

You may be giving me a tad too much credit.

My point at the time was that even though it appeared that passing Jack's major record was a slam dunk, I cautioned people not to be too confident. I thought he'd do it as well (who in their right mind would bet against him) but I said you never know what may happen and gave a few possibilities such priorities changing (family), not as much drive to succeed as one gets older and increased chance of injuries as we get older etc. I only gave injuries as a possibility, not a prediction.

Thanks anyways.
