Leafs have made some big changes since last year and the future looks a little brighter this year. Mind you, I've said the same thing in past years. I will give the management credit though. This is the first time the Leafs appear to be going about a proper rebuild from the ground up.

Let's see what happens!

Other than reilly, mathews, and nylander who do they have, I don't really follow real close anymore, oh yeah the guy from london too, pretty good base I guess. It will be interesting to see if kadri and bozek are traded this year.

Considering the Leafs just signed Kadri to six-year contract extension, I don't think he's on the trading block. Bozak has 2 years left on his. The other player who could make a difference is Frederik Andersen in goal. Hopefully he won't let in a softy like like Bernier did so regularly last year.

Kadri has a very reasonable contract that might be attractive to another team. If the right deal comes up, it's very possible that he gets traded.

Kadri is a disposable player, kind of bland. Kind of like Michael sanders, if he's gone you wouldn't really notice.

50th anniversary year of not making it to the Stanley Cup Finals. A little bittersweet as a Leafs hater, because they are clearly not trying to win and finally focusing on devlopment. They are clearly moving in the right direction and I think doing a good job with it. It would have been better for me to see Kessel and Co failing again in the anniversary year.

I don't think the streak of not making the finals lasts another 10 years.

Just finished watching the Leafs rookie tournament and was very pleased with what I saw. Colin Smith, Trevor Moore, Timashov, & Neilson were particularly impressive. Mason Marchment (son of form Leaf Brian) was a non-drafted player but he played a real physical 2 way game on Sunday. Hats off to Mark Hunter. Marner played well in the first two games but sat out the last one. The Leafs finished 3-0 and won the tournament unbeaten.

Joffrey Lupul will start the season on the IR list. I fear he is done. Even when he comes off the IR list, something will happen to put him back on the list.

For once the Leafs are going into the season with a set first blue line unit: Reilly and Zaitsev.

Young Nikita is one of the stars of the WC, his clearance allowed Russia to score their third goal against Finland.

After Matthews has played with McDavid and Eichel who the hell does he play with in TO? Leafs have to make a strong trade to give Matthews some support, If they just rely on him then you have a Oilers East thing happening, great player with no support. I say Kardi is the likely candidate, he has a friendly contract.

Would you hazard a guess on the Leafs' opening day lineup? Kadri is at best a 3rd or 4th line centre.

Gibbs that's not going to happen.

Don't confuse Lou with Craig MacTavish. With the talent pool Lou is building Matthews will get the support, if Shoshnikov continues to improve they could make a potent due. Shosh's wrister is harder than most players slap shot. I also like that they resigned Roman Polak, protect Danmand's paisan.

I do think that Babcock likes KADRI more than a third line centre. He'll protect Matthews and has said that he'll start on the third line with NYLANDER. KADRI by default will be the first line centre.

I think they'll try to have 3 balanced lines that play significant minutes each and that'll probably take some pressure off each line.

Who would you give up in a trade with Winnipeg for Jacob Trouba. Gardiner and draft pick? Perhaps try and give them Lupul as well, like Nonis did with Clarksons contract.

Lupul makes no sense in this context. Totally unrelated situation.

The Jackets were going to have to pay Horton, so they traded him to get a player that would at least be able to play in Clarkson - they were a budget team not a cap team. So they were willing to take on Clarkson, and Leafs were happy to pay Horton and get the cap relief.

The Jets are not going to eat Lupul salary .. it does nothing for the. He has zero value to them.

Rosterresource.com has the line pairings as follows

JVR-Bozak-Marner
Michalek-Kadri-Komarov
Nylander-Matthews-Hyman
Martin-Holland-Brown

I think they roll the 1st 3 lines out there evenly, there is no clear cut 1st unit.
