As an black American, I support his right to do this. Just like I feel the people who go to NASCAR events, have the right to display the Confederate flag. That being said, as a fellow black American, I think Colin Kapernich is wrong or misguided in his actions. His reasons to me seem out of place, for American now.

America isn't prefect, but has come a long way. Too many black and white Americans have died to change this country for the better. Of course there are racist Americans, and there will always be. But do they really stand for what America has become. If this was the 40's, 50's or even the 60's, I would support his actions. America is not the same country, it was back then. My father was drafted in WWII and served in the Pacific theater, but had to sit in the back of buses and trains, in his own home country! Those days are gone, thanks to sacrifice of many great Americans!

'Those days are gone'? Have you been living under a rock? How many blacks will have to be killed/assaulted by LE or people ' defending themselves' before you think otherwise?

If you think America hasn't evolved, you're either blind or refuse to accept reality. Do you really think every police shooting involving police and blacks is a racial incident. Yes there are still unjustified shootings of blacks by police, and I pray those cops are held accountable. That police shooting in Milwaukee, that caused a couple of nights of destruction, well the officer was black. So how is that a racial incident? Are there still racist cops, who shouldn't be cops, YES!

There was a time, my late Grandfather was called 'boy' and not allowed to vote in Mississippi. Later in life, things had changed, that he could freely vote and white folks called him 'Sir.' Now Mississippi still has a ways to go, but it's a lot better than it used to be. So you can't say America hasn't changed for the better, but if you say it hasn't, you don't know history.

just to add to that, the guy is living the dream thanks to the amazing country he lives in. Plays a sport for a living, makes millions of dollars doing it (not to mention I'm sure lots of white folks helped him along the way). Show a little fucking respect for the county that allowed you have the great life you have, and stand for the anthem.

He's not protesting for himself. He's using his platform as someone who plays a sport for a living to shed some light on the indignities that are happening to others that don't have a platform. More people in his position should be doing the same.

Still disrespectful to the country that has given you everything you have, find another fucking way.

He should be doing what Dwayne Wade is doing. Refusing to stand for the anthem does fcuk all for the black community.

I'm not sure what you're referring to that Wade did, but I guarantee that Kaepernick's actions have received more media attention. I wouldn't call raising awareness 'fuck all'. Also, Wade's cousin died in the crossfire of Southside Chicago gun violence. Completely different issue from what Kaepernick is talking about.

Kaepernick is a headcase/malcontent. Interpreting his actions on an intellectual level is giving him too much credit.

Kaepernick is free to do as he pleases and to accept the consequences that come with his actions. But I have to ask this question.

Is Kaepernick part Native American?

I didn't say that America hasn't changed. The whole country would have been burned to the ground if Obama was elected in 1950. You said that days of oppression are 'long gone' - this is what I take issue with.

I doubt Mr. Kapernick ever lived in any other country. He, should, that would be an eye opener. Maybe he should try living in a black majority country (like South Africa) for a couple of years.

At least in South Africa the racial issues are acknowledged. When LE can kill a man (on video, I might add), and only end up with a paid leave of absence, more eyes need to be opened closer to home. At least Forcillo got some jail time.

He should be in blackish lives matter, plus he's no good anymore so his statement is useless. The blm'ers should try to trade him in for someone relevant, nobody pays attention to irrelevant people, that's just how society works.

He's not completely irrelevant or else no one would be talking about it. I'm sure if you did the same, there would be no uproar :) I said earlier that more people will need to follow his lead before anything comes of it.
