i have an htc one m8
the phone freezes when i try to make a call and gives an error message.
and it doesn't play video, like on youtube or netflix at all. it says something went wrong whenever i try to play a video.

this all started when i tried to download something on the phone...
a vpn program/app on the phone and a video player.

then the netflix and youtube video errors started happening.

before i tried downloading a video program, it was working perfectly...phone calls were okay and youtube videos and netflix was working perfectly.

i already gave it to a mall kiosk at a mall that tried to service and fix these issues already. i asked him to do a complete reinstall of the operating system and wipe out the entire phone of any glitches that might be causing the video playing issues and the phone freezing when making calls. but i think he only did a factory reset / cleared cache of the phone because it still has the same exact issues.

i think he was afraid of bricking the phone.

i messaged Mobile Square
8339 Kennedy Rd in Markham.
they said they don't restore stock rom on htc

anyone know someone in toronto that does stock rom on htc phones?

i need a complete wipe of a phone and reinstall of the operating system on an htc one m8.

i dont want to brick the phone.

can you not just do a hard reset on the phone and wipe it? You don't need anyone to do that, but you will lose everything and it will go back to how it came new.

Completely. Where it erases all ur apps and files and puts it back the way it was. But the flash program was messed with so i dont think the factory reset could restore the flash program (flash program necessary to play all videos youtube and netflix)

After you do factory reset you then need to load updates... did you do that?

BTW newer versions of android do not use flash, so if you are trying to run stuff with the original rom that may be too old and you need to upgrade. I think the HTC 1 M8 is almost a 4 yr old model no?

ya but, if u dont do an update, the video portion of youtube and netflix should still work, no? and why wasnt it able to make phone calls? for some reason, the phone wasnt able to make a phone call.

are u saying an update wouldnt fixed all these issues?

Not necessarily...at this point these are pretty old versions of the app. The phone part, probably should work, but you have little to lose by updating to the latest OS.

I dont knpw. I went to this guy in mississauga that hooked it up to his laptop, ran the teamwin program etc etc and he looked into it. Said he did a complete wipe or maybe just a factory reset. think he then updated it and mayb thats what fixed it. dont know if thats what fixed it. Dont kno if he reinstalled the operating system or just did a factory reset and update. And whether that alone fixed it. In any case, he fixed the issue. The videos worked again. he charged me 50 for the whole thing.

dont know. Dont care. 50 bucks doesnt bother me. Its peanuts to me. Im just glad he fixed the issue. all i know is im never installing anything from torrents or anything outside of google play ever again. Programs like that will go into ur phone functions and mess around with the basic functions like making a simple phone call or playing video on youtube or netflix.

Now im planning to get the modular moto z where u can add custom add ons like a bigger camera or bigger speaker. The google modular phone that was planned to come out got cancelled.

If you were getting a new phone you shoulda just dumped the M8. $50 isn't bad it time spent. Its annoying though. MOTO Z is just too much $ for the phone. I refuse to spend that kinda cash on a phone just coz its a ripoff.

sw? .............................
OS upgrades, most Andriod phones seem to offer only 2-3 tops. Once the upgrades stop, you are stuck with old versions of apps and they eventually stop working. So then you gotta root and use a custom rom.... all a pain IMHO.
