Wow, promo you are just as bad as me and I see your other firestarter posts in the other threads...well at least you ended it on a positive note. :clap2: BTW don't forget that ridelin and I look forward to the updated drivers and witnessing the 3rd party just make a mess out of the founder card through further benchmarks. The only mod that has potential thus far IMO is that EKWB water block modification to the reference card. Maybe the hybrid, however I remain skeptical and until I see proof. Until then I will enjoy my gaming.

P.S. since you asked why I need the 1080 card when it is not maxed out, here is the answer. I plan on getting a gaming monitor at least 1440p at 100 or 144 hz or maybe more. I also plan on building my own computer and passing down the one have and using the 1080 in my new build. In addition new games in the next 1-2 will be more demanding and I anticipate I will need to overclock to get the best performance and get the maximum life out of my investment. If I overclock the founder it will get loud and I will need a waterblock to keep it quite and cool. I know I will be able to do this and it will remain stable and I will get a good service life out of the card. Simple as pie.

BTW instead of just making noise and creating dust, why not post a video that shows benchmark where the 3rd party outperforms the 1080 reference. We can all talk all we want but if there is no substance what is the point. Show me where the 3rd party overclocks higher then 2088 Mhz and is stable . Show me where the 3rd party outperforms the founder versions. In benchmarks ans fps counts on actual games. Its simple, otherwise it is all talk no substance.

Cheers :D
here is the first of many that will outperform the founders edition ;)

expect the soon to be released Evga "classified" edition to perform even better.

I have a dislike of yahoos. Oh, and guys that use expressions like "easy-peasy".

I'm pretty sure I didn't ask you that. Thanks though.

Simple as pie eh? Big-bong! Hoopty-dee-doo!

Can my video be in Russian? What kind of yahoo references a video in German??

I ALREADY explained that to you: "Further overclocking performed by private enthusiasts, which you seem totally focused on as a quality measure, is a roll of the dice (i.e. silicon-lottery). TODAY the variances are large for the reasons I describe above: One card may only overclock a few % more, but the next one on the shelf may go 20% more. In a few months, that will no longer be the case as binning gets perfected. My point - most current comparison tests are unreliable and therefore irrelevant. Wait 2-3 months, then compare (as I originally said at the beginning of this thread)."

Back to ignoring you.

Damn this is low, you resort to belittling and putting down. Thats all you do to make yourself feel good, and then just keep regurgitaing nonsense without applying thought, reason and practicallity. Pat on the back for you, sign of a troubled individual with self esteem issues. Get some help, this is not healthy and stop poisoning the good vibes and the community.

Dam, I actually tough there was more to you. Thanks for the advice. You are the first guy I actually put on my terb ignore list. I have no time for your kind and your poison.

I am not taking your bait. Go troll other people, looks like the terb community is picking up on your issues and nonsense.

You call this an unbiased review. So he tests the EVGA card with a factory boost settings applied vs. standard founder and says he can only over clock by an additional 60. Who knows what kind of other factory settings are applied. Post 110 was getting 2088 with founder stable by overclocking it with MSI afterburner. You dont see any issues here?

Wy not overclock both cards to their maximum, level they playing field and do an honest comparison. Did you even watch the video. But its called FTW so it must be better.

I have no issues admitting that I am wrong and shutting up about this card. However the reviews thus far are not demonstrating this. Your video proves nothing becuase the guy is not tweaking the settings to the maximum for both cards and getting the maximum overclocking and performance. A slight tweek in MSI afterburner will get you 2000-2050 Ghz and will beat these benchmarks! 2088 is harder to get and I think this is the maximum I've seen anyone achieve with the 1080. Can you not see its like a promo video. What a coincidence. I actually already saw this video and follow this guy on Youtube and I know he is heavily sponsored by EVGA.

All I am trying to convey is think critically. Dont listen to me or 10 other reviewers or bestbuy geeks or self proclaimed terb experts. Make the decision yourself after looking at it for all sides and not just what paid reviewers say to push their sponsors product or others with ulterior and biased views. I think there are a lot of biases with these video card, mind games especially when you put AMD into the equation. The intention here is not to compare dick sizes, the intention here is to look at this from all sides. I dont know about you guys but $1k is worth pondering over a bit to get the best deal for your needs.

This is about making an informed decision comparing all angles and not allowing paid youtube reviewers to skew your decision.

Here is a better video just posted.. The guy even manages to overclock to 2100 with MSI wich is the highest I saw someone manage to achieve other then Nvidia. However his conclusion is that in terms of performance they are very similar with few fps plus and minus which I think is a fair statement.

What I have an issue is when guys are telling me the 3rd party is going to be "better" like the Canada computers guy. At the end of the day it comes down to your immediate, short term and long term needs that work with your system and level of set up. Many of the 1080s versions are great. So is the founders. You cant really do much wrong other then making sure it is compatible with your system limitations and your needs. I dont like when people are pushing product down my throat becuase of their biases and agendas.

LOL, I see you changed your original response. I was nice in my first few rebuttals. You won't listen to logic or reason from any member here including myself. When you posted german-speaking videos as proof of your position, I stepped up appropriately.

You are like this all the time. i.e. Your Tesla posts. You ignore everyone that offers an alternative idea and you start posting 10-20-30 times in a single thread. 43 times in this thread so far!

You were pretty rude/sarcastic to glamphotographer and b4u above, you going to admit to that?

This is about making an informed decision comparing all angles and not allowing paid youtube reviewers to skew your decision.
Yet when a Youtuber supports your position, you go all crazy telling everyone you were right. When a Youtuber disagrees with your position, you shit all over the review and call him bias.<-- this is exactly my point about your posts - look in the mirror dude.

There is still a huge demand for the GTX 980 so I sold it $500 after I bought it for $420. Made a $80 profit. HAHA!!! Going to miss it thought, it was a beauty MSI GTX 980. Trying to save up for the 1080 or 1070.

Wow, that's crazy and congrats. I think someone did that with a lens I was trying to get rid of as well in kijiji...I think many do this...where did you sell it BTW?

I think thats a great decision to go with the 1070 or 1080 both really good video cards. Just keep the future in mind. For me I have it open to either do SLI or just overclock it to max and put a waterblock on it. Right not to sure what to do with the chepo HP version of my 960. Hoping to do a passme down build and its good for video and handles 4k well. I dont think Nvidia will have the next release beat two 1080s in SLI like the 1080 did to the 980, but you never know. Its always hard to future proof two years down the road.

BTW, what video editor do you use for windows and how much is it? I am coming from a Mac FCP X environment and used Lightroom for Photos. Are there any budget video editors that handle 4k well? Thx!

If I had to pick one video that gives best advice to newbies about custom PC builds it would be this one. This guys hits it directly like it is, no BS. I think its very important to keep these 3 key word indicators in the back of the mind "its better", "gaming" and "marketing".

I consider myself a newbie as well, however I know there is a LOT of BAD advice out there, there is a lot of biased advice, and most of the time its about marketing and guys pushing and pimping their sponsor products, or guys that are just brainwashed from all the paid sponsors and throwing words like "better" and "gaming" around to justify their recommendations.

I made two huge mistakes in the past. 1st was droping over $3k on a Macbook pro and 2nd was buying the HP Phoenix gming PC. However, I think sometimes mistakes are necessary as they steer you in the right direction. Also I probably would of had a 980 if it was a custom build like I originally wanted at the time, so I am happy with 1080 which is actually the best decision IMO.

Right now I can not be hapier because I discovered an awesome world of gaming to get away from it all for a bit and its been keeping me away from the hobby as well.

So if I had any advice for newbies like myself it would be first figure out what you need, what is your budget, and start from there. Aslo be very weary of guys like Canada computer "experts" who claim one type of product is "better" such as the case with the video cards. It is just not the case. Many of the new Nvidia gtx cards are geat especially the 1080 and all over clock very similar with few percentage points different and few FPS different. Definitely not enough to make a huge difference. As in my case the founders is perfect becuase I simply do not have enough space, it is congested and the fan 3rd party cards would not work well and potentially overheat my system. However the founder does get loud if overclocked and thus 3rd party might be a better solution such as a water block if your case can hande it or fan style cooler if your case has good air flow and additional fans in the case to assist. So every solution is unique and there ia no magical one card solves all problems.

I like this thread and hope we can keep it constructive. I am finding a lot of satisfaction learning from many of the posts and videos and my own trial and error. Hopefully later this year I will attempt my own build so please keep constructive advice and share your experience about PCs and builds.

Here is the video...

Sold it on Kijji. But I miss it already. Beautiful red and black design. Energy efficient and over clocking performance.

Finally GamersNexus campares apples to apples by comparing 2050 founder OC to 3rd party 2050 oc vs many other reviewers comparing out of box founders to factory boosted 3rd party and not matching frequencies. Although he did this to a few benchmarks later in the video I wish he did this with all the previous benchmarks posted in this video to give us an idea how it compares at lower frequencies. At least keep it consistent. Its very easy to boost founders to 1860, 1900s or 2000.

This particular 3rd party card is $720 USD and achieves very similar results when comparing over clocks with the founder overclocked with 3rd party being "slightly" higher fps. Definitely not enough to notice during game play. I know jays2cents managed to overclock founders stable to 2086. Gamers nexus are saying you get more stable results with the 3rd party. I dont know how much confidence I have in this as he is playing with some of his words a bit and numbers. Despite this I find it very exciting that they managed to overclock their founders with a custom liquid cooling hybrid system to 2164. Thats a 430 mhz boots from 1733 as advertised for fonders!

Its crazy these cards are going for $800-1000 USD on amazon.com.

The RX 480 is out today at Canada Computers. Its a Sapphire and is listed at $370 for the 8Gb version. I didn't ask about the 4Gb one.
Sapphire is also ready to release their ramped up version the Nitro. No specs on that one yet or a price.

http://techfrag.com/2016/06/26/amd-radeon-rx-480-specs-performs-similar-r9-fury-gtx-980/

http://www.game-debate.com/news/206...-launch-rumors-and-leaked-benchmarks-round-up

That article gives the OC only to 1288 (base speed is 1266) whereas I have seen reports by a user getting up to 1350 though no one has been able to OC it to 1400. But each individual card tends to be unique in its OC ability and third party releases will boost that capability no doubt.

Another great video talking about Youtube reviewers vs. Influencers and also how marketing is forcing Youtube reviewers to turn to Influencers. This guy is talking from a gaming perspectives however same principles apply to technology. Sometimes it is very easy to spot Influencers vs. honest credible Youtube reviewers. Other times not so easy such as gamersnexus as he appears legit although every now and then he says something or presents his data in a certain way that makes you question it. Also many "honest" Youtube reviewers are turning to influecers once they gather enough following and inflence that they just start caring about the mullah!!!

Anyways, I think this video would add value to this thread....

Out of box zotac extreme can't overclock to 2100. Founders consistently over clocks past 2100. He got 2166 on air. Turn to 7:15 for conclusions. Although zotac is silent and keeps temperature low and out of box overclocks to 2050. Interesting indeed. Can anyone find the liquid block mod overclock benchmatks with founders ?

Zotac extreme $999 CAD http://www.ncix.com/detail/zotac-geforce-gtx-1080-amp-b7-133183.htm
Zotac founders $914 CAD http://www.ncix.com/detail/zotac-nvidia-geforce-gtx-1080-0f-131245.htm

i got inspired by this thread to build a gaming pc. in the 90's and early 2000's i built dozens of gaming pc's for clients as well as always having top of the line components in my own build.
for awhile i kinda lost interest in gaming and was using only laptops from about 2005 till now.

my plan was to spend about 2k on a decent gaming rig,but the fever took hold and over the past 6 weeks or so i've been accumulating various parts as they go on sale. as of today i now have all the parts except the monitor and graphics card, which i wont have untill aug. 12 so throughout this week i'll be putting everything together time permitting. i'm pretty excited as i have that feeling i once had about building and modding my own pc. things got a little outta hand as you will see from my pcpartpicker build.....and i'm not done yet. I have a spare 8x10 room that i had used for storage is now going to be remodeled into my gaming/vr room. i plan to add a second gtx 1080 when i purchase my vr rig.

have a peek and tell me what you think.... http://ca.pcpartpicker.com/list/BTPykT also it should be noted that i paid less for virtually all the components listed on pcpartspicker by following sales for the past six weeks

i'll keep you posted how the build goes once i get into it. exciting times ahead for me :)
I should also note that the pc will also be connected to a 55inch samsung 4k uhd tv so that should also look awesome

cheers

You will need a more powerful PSU. The Gtx1080 requires at least 500W and I have seen recommendations for 600, If you are planning on running 2 plus associated VR you had better get a 1200W PSU.

750W is probably right on the edge with sli for gtx 1080. I would probably get something a little more powerful .
http://www.guru3d.com/articles-pages/geforce-gtx-1080-2-way-sli-review,4.html

Also why two ssds? One specifically for os and another for games?

UPS? While I have one, I find I've only ever used it a couple of times. Probably not worth it unless your area has really bad power or if you do work where it is imperative not to lose data.

All being said it looks like it will be an awesome rig.

The psu was the first thing i picked up. I got it on a one day amazon sale for 100 bucks. as i mentioned my initial plan was for a system costing no more than 2k
and i wasn't thinking sli at all.
according to all the forums i've checked the 750w psu would be the minimum and borderline at best if i keep everything at stock configuration, but i am planning on overclocking the cpu and gpu's so i will need to swap out the psu when i do that.

my boot ssd the samsung 950 pro nvme m.2 is 5 times faster than the samsung 850 ssd and will be used for the os,editing software and perhaps a game or 2 that i play alot of. the second ssd is my primary gaming drive and the internal hdd for everything else.

i definitely need the ups where i live, it's an old neighborhood and i think my home still has the original wiring. so far this year there have been 4 blackouts in the area and i have the odd breaker trip now and again. better to be safe than sorry :)

thanks for your comments.

cheers

A tool to help you decide what psu to get.

http://www.coolermaster.com/power-supply-calculator/

My usage stats came out to 583w and they recommended I get at least 683. Advised their product Cooler Master 750 Gold.

The differences between Bronze Gold Platinum etc.

http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/338726-28-differences-bronze-silver-gold-platinum-certificates

PS Tom's also recommends the i7-5820K cpu as the best cpu for the money under $400. Newest does not always mean best.
using the coolermaster calculator for my sli cinfiguration shows i'll be consuming similar power than your config. skylake and pascal are far more energy efficient than previous generations
cooler master shows the same load wattage as the pc partspicker site for my config.
Load Wattage: 596 W
Recommended PSU Wattage: 646 W and recomended psu is 750w for headroom. those figures do take into account the overclocking i will do.

newest is not always best as you say, but you can be sure it's much more power efficient

so maybe i won't need to upgrade psu after all. we shall see
