So with lil Justin now in charge and with numerous promises made, what do you guys and gals think about buying some engineering stocks(eg SNC Lavalin) and some of these penny pot stocks?

I know politicians make alot of promises they don't keep.So give me your thoughts.

Some of these stocks have already had a run since the election. I would wait until the euphoria wears off and they come back down.

The infrastructure stocks are a mid-term play and probably a little volatile, look for those with dividends and with the ties to the new political regime. As Saxon says the pot stocks have run already and some actually dropped 5-8% on the Lib win. That said the market will go from under $100M/year in Canada to over $5B/year if legalization occurs. Look to those companies that have a "recreational" bias rather than those that are strictly MM. G/L

Stay away from SNC, these guys are caught up in bribery scandals and fraud charges. I'd go with WSP Global, better dividend and none of the controversy surrounding SNC.

I think the bribery scandal is in the past for SNC. All though it might affect future decisions of governments weather or not to choose them.

Maybe wait until the new year to buy any stocks. That's when the new budget comes out. You know what they say,buy on rumour, sell on fact.

Charges still on the books for SNC, today they lobbied the new Liberal government to drop the charges and settle with a fine but without the company admitting any wrongdoing as to not hinder the company in getting government contracts. Same tactics are common in the US where companies pay large fines to settle charges but admit no wrongdoing.

So anybody have a complete list of Trudeau's Pot Stocks?
here's a list of the companies who have already passed Health Canada's VERY stringent security and production requirements to become a licensed producer of medical marijuana (dried/fresh/oils).

http://www.hc-sc.gc.ca/dhp-mps/marihuana/info/list-eng.php

as mentioned by others, you already missed the boat when these companies were granted their license. however there are still other companies at various stages of obtaining final approval and licensed status by Health Canada that you can still make some money on.

one of these is supreme pharmaceuticals (C.SL). they've been waiting for their license for over a year now and have gone through many highs and lows but they have finally obtained an inspection date by health Canada for tomorrow. the stock jumped 15% with volume of 2.3M today based on this news. how long will it take for them to get the golden ticket (LP status) after tomorrow's inspection? only HC knows, could be a week, could be a month, could be another 6 months. but when they do, this thing will pop! http://www.stockhouse.com/companies/bullboard/c.sl/supreme-pharmaceuticals-inc

there are other plays available related to the marijuana sector. for instance people are watching the race to see who will produce the first THC breathalyzer accepted by police as the gold standard. there are a few companies in the states working on a prototype. one of the early frontrunners was Canadian company cannabix technologies inc. (C.BLO). they have made good progress with their research but with new competition out there, they need to accelerate things to be first out of the gates. http://www.stockhouse.com/companies/bullboard/c.blo/cannabix-technologies-inc

and then there is the area of edibles & oils. right now a company called nutritional high inc. has been getting most of the press. main reason is because there are rumblings that the current biggest Canadian producer of weed (Canopy Growth Corporation aka Tweed) has been in discussion with them. tweed's first production facility was the old Hershey chocolate factory so seems like a match made in heaven. another one to watch and right now price of stock is cheap. http://www.stockhouse.com/companies/bullboard/c.eat/nutritional-high-international-inc
Canopy itself is the one most people are watching, they are like the barometer for the entire mj sector - if they go green, the rest of the producers do too, same thing with red. http://www.stockhouse.com/companies/bullboard/v.cgc/capital-gold-corporation

every company is waiting for the news that marijuana will become a recreational commodity and when that happens, i'm sure you can expect some great returns. i'd also expect some more mergers and acquisitions over the next 5 years. it's a new industry so there will be growing pains and nothing is for certain but it's rather fun to watch these turns of events if nothing else. and as always do your own due diligence before you invest your money.

As a professional, I'd also recommend BIP. Highly diversified quality real assets backed by inflation indexed cash flows. Pays a 5% div yield and also has an extensive capital project backlog. Now is not the time to invest in any rails given they are trading at historic high P/E
