Now that Woodbine has the backing of Council will a full casino ie: tables and slots at the famous Woodbine site have an effect on the 2 Niagara Casinos? I've heard 60-70% of their customers come from out of town via the "Casino Buses" you see rolling down the road. With a full casino in TO you likely won't see as many anymore.
I realize that OLG had the final say but I think all that's needed is the rubber stamp IMHO.

Woodbine will have a negative effect on Niagara, Rama, Port Perry, and Brantford. It will have a minor effect on some of the other casinos and an effect on some of the race tracks.

The jobs woodbine is suppose to create will be filled by those currently employed at the effected casinos. You need experience to be a supervisor, pit manager etc. Dealers from the effected casinos will also fill a lot of the dealer positions.

The casino business in Ontario has dropped off as the novelty has worn off and patrons pocket books have become somewhat depleted.

Sad to see the Ont. Liberals have to resort to trying to get people to gamble more so they can try and manage the incredible deficit they've gotten us into.

Then you also have to deal and compensate the Natives and Aboriginals who get annual "dividends" from some of the affected casinos. I know 100% that Casino Rama and Port Perry have to distribute percentages of their revenue because the sites of their casinos are on native reserves.

It will affect all ontario casinos that are not in the GTA as people will not drive 45 mins to 90mins from the GTA when they can go to woodbine.

It will be a mess.

Part of the Woodbine Casino expansion is that they would have have a partner not just run it themselves. WEG is a very successful entertainment industry and recognized around the world, having the full Casino will just add to its resume.

There will be more jobs involved whether they come from other area locations or are trained from scratch. Remember nobody was trained in the Casino trade when they came here in 1999,they all had to be trained.

Hopefully Woodbines horse racing industry will get more cash out of the deal as the Liberals just about decimated the racing and breeding industry in Ontario.

this argument doesn't make any sense. that's like saying fallsview would affect Casino Niagara. Its right down the street. Plenty of gamblers to go around

According to some of our city councillors the Woodbine Casino will be populated by people that have never gambled before in their lives. I base this on the hysterics of those councillors who claim that a casino at Woodbine will destroy the lives of hundreds of thousands of people living in the north-west section of Toronto; like they never had all the other casinos around southern Ontario or the corner stores that sell lottery tickets if they wanted to gamble. Or maybe the people in that area will be forced to go to the casino against their will. But the left wing brother's keepers will continue to scream.

The other question is how many more people would go to a casino if it wasn't an hour or two away. I have a strong suspicion that there a a bunch of people (myself included) who enjoy the casino experience but don't want to bother with a long trip.

I personally gamble quite a bit at niagara and rama. I spoke to many employees at niagara and they think it would hurt them big time if woodbine turns into a full casino. Alot of friends bus from toronto using Safeway tours that has a bus every hour. Why drive or take an hour plus ride to the casino when you can get to one in 20-30 mins.

Everytime I go to rama, its not extremely busy and they also have people bused in from mostly toronto and markham. So I think it would hurt them.

If they turn Woodbine into a full casino, hopefully it will be with a hotel and a concert venue with some big names like rama and niagara gets.

Why not expand and turn the race track facility on Coxwell and Queen street to a full casino? That way you don't have to pay the 7 dollar for the bus trip, and its near the subway and street cars.

Several years ago I heard (on the radio) that the Natives agreed to get a smaller percentage from ALL casinos instead of the previous getting a big percentage from Rama. When I heard this originally, I thought that a casino was coming to Toronto.

I have a relative who works at WEG and the plan she says is to make it a full entertainment complex racing, casino, theatre, hotel and more.

Not completely true, a lot came from charity casinos. Cruise ships and smaller off shore casinos supplied some. Windsor was up and running and that allowed people with experience to return to the GTA
Top execs came from the U.S.

That is my understanding too. It will be a full commercial casino.
Even if it is a scaled down version it will kick butt. Convenience alone will make it successful and draw Torontonians away from the rural competition.
I think the others, may have to make themselves into a stay and play venue. Rama may have to cater more to the cottage crowd.
Entertainment may get bigger and better.

As I understand it WEGs other facility Mohawk Racetrack just down the 401 in rural Campbellville is already zoned for a casino hotel golf course and would take in the crowd from the Burlington,Guelph,Cambridge,KW areas as it does now.

Niagara will continue to gets Americans over the border. And with the low Canadian dollar Americans will keep coming over for a while.
