No model
[I also read that in the Toronto Star. The new city council elected in October is going to be asked to change the licencing rules regarding strip bars to allow them to apply for Brothel licences.
So, here's where we're at. It's June, there are fourteen more sitting days until the House breaks for the summer on June 20th. It will not meet again until late September at the earliest. Government bills are introduced in the House on Mondays. So, there are two sitting days left for legislation to be introduced. Governments don't generally introduce legislation this late in the session. They are busy wrapping things up for summer recess. Any bill introduced now might not even get through first reading before summer recess. By the time the House reconvenes in the Fall they will have about fifty sitting days, until mid-December. The chances of having anything in place by the December 20th deadline is getting slimmer and slimmer. It is also highly unlikely the SC would give them an extension since they will have had a year to come up with something.
What do they have to gain from a Nordic model law? Radical feminists will never vote Conservative no matter what they do. Harper is, after all, a man and just another dick they don't like. The Christian right and social conservatives will vote for him anyway because they have no place else to go. But what if they do nothing and leave it to the next government? Hmmm! Nothing to defend, no one to offend.
