Heading to Puerta Vallarta on my own.

Golf, food, drinks, sun, pool, books, naps/sleep.

No time for anyone else.

Advice is to stick with a tour group like G Adventures or Intrepid if you want to see the world and more than just a beach. I've been on their tours and you get paired up with another solo traveller or you can opt to pay extra for your own room. That being said, you meet fantastic people from all over the world. On my last trip to Machu Picchu I met people from England, Australia, France, Ireland all in their mid 30's to 50's. It's a great time and is not a drunk fest like contiki.

I love this thread. It's so adventurous! Personally, I really encourage travelling alone, and I've done it myself several times over. I do wonder what the main purpose of your trip would be - reflection, or social hour? I really would urge you to not go with friends if you are set on having a trip for reflection. I met up with some friends in town when I went to Paris/London and it took away any amount of reflection I could have had, just due to distractions, despite having some alone time during the trip.

If you'd prefer to have a social trip and worried about safety, as someone posted the travel group tours for young adults are great - G adventures, Contiki tours, etc.
You could also easily go to any of the Carribean resorts - they are generally all pretty safe as long as you keep on the resort grounds and with the resort operated tours. It's also easy to make friends or have company on resorts.

If you're serious about reflection, definitely do not invite social time onto the trip. What I'd recommend for you to prepare is to start hanging out by yourself at home a few times to get used to it - perhaps you haven't done this before. Go to the bar, go to a restaurant by yourself. Eat, drink alone and enjoy your own company. Reflect. It takes some time getting used to, and the choice of restaurant/bar is important as well as the time of day you go.

Good luck!

*just saw that this is a super old thread as well, but I think this advice could help some still so I will leave it!

If you're comfortable with yourself, vacationing alone is the only way to go. Avoid family resorts, organized group tours, etc. The whole point of vacationing alone is that it's your time to do what you feel like doing or not.

Travelling alone is the only way to go.
I have been to Hawaii several times, and always by myself. Went to Vegas once with a friend but he was glued to the gaming tables and I'm not a big gambler.I get bored after sitting at a table for 10 minutes.
My bucket list trip is to Melbourne Australia for the opening round of F1 season and maybe another stop in Hawaii on the way back.I will do that alone aswell.

I agree. Traveling alone is the best. No stress or worry what other people may or may not want to do. You do what you want when you want with no guilt. Plus it can help with mental health issues. It did for me.
Now just have to convince the wife again.

Guys, the OP posted this 6 years ago, I think she got the feedback she needed and made a decision...lol.
Soooooo what's the big deal with other people chiming in? If someone reviewed a SP 5-6 years ago not be valid anymore?

I travel alone a bit for business. Many times i've worked in some pleasure time. I almost prefer to go to a hobby destination alone like Rio for example. Sit on the beech all day and then go to the Termas at night. Or in Europe I go to the FKKs and treat them like a all inclusive resort. When I get tired of the sex I take a break by visiting the sites for a day or so or travel to another FKK. This is fun. It's nice to find a wingman and it can make things a little more affordable but you cannot beat the flexibility of traveling alone. I can do things on a whim and I only have to consult me, myself, and I.

Possibly not. She'd be 6 years older and her services may have changed. I sure as hell wouldn't book only based on a 6 year old review.

But yes, your point is a good one. The guy can resurrect a dead thread if he wants (and other people can bash him for it).

It isn't a big deal, but it's stupidity and it's finest and I'm free to voice my opinion about it. You really want to sit here and debate if the OP is still looking for feedback regarding her travel plans 6 years ago???

The OP might not be but obviously other people do.
Don't read the thread if you aren't interested.

Ummm... guys? The OP account is a spammer. Check his posts. Just one or two random ones like this and the rest pushing scam sites.

Still fun though. Wish he’d have resurrected threads on Tarah from Hands from Heaven.
