Any other junior hockey fans out there been following this kid's career in the OHL? The numbers he is putting up for a kid his age are amazing. 45 goals as a 15 year old. Just think too, he is not NHL draft eligible until 2009.

Here is a recent story about him from the Toronto Star.

He is for real.....my nephew played with him on the Milton tier 2 Jr A team when Tavares was only 13 and he was the best player in the league then playing with 16 - 20 yr olds.

This kid is talented. The future of Canadian hockey looks very good with him Sid the Kid, the Stall brothers and the other up and coming stars that Canada is producing.

Lots of great Canadian juniors coming up. Angelo Esposito from Quebec Remparts, Sam Gagne London Knights (4th in OHL scoring in rookie season), Steve Stamkos from Sarnia (71 points in this his OHL rookie season, 7th overall in scoring) and of course Tavares (leading the OHL in scoring, tied with Donati).

He wasn't the best player in the league by any stretch of the imagination.Stop fabricating.

Is he a good player? Yes. Is he overrated? Yes.

He'll be a good NHL'er, but his mediocre skating will hold him back from ever becoming a super star.

Sam Gagner is a better all around player. My boyfriend and I used to watch them play all the time during their minor midget Marlie year, and we both thought Ganger was the best player on the team. Just ask Craig Hartsburg.

Don't be so quick to annoint the next one, becasue more often than not, they don't live up to the hype.

Regarding all these hockey prodigies Canada is producing, there is one constant - none of them will be wearing a Leafs jersey in the future.

Sure they will......

In the far, far, far future....probably right before they are ready to retire....

Time will only tell. Pretty hard to overrate a kid that young when he is tearing up the OHL. Who was the last junior player to score 45 as a 14-15 year old? Give the kid some credit, he is a hell of a talent and can only get better. Gretzky had his flaws at the same age, his size and his skating and he turned out pretty good. Not that this kid is a Gretzky but he sure knows where the net is. That is one thing you can't teach - scoring and playmaking. Skating and defensive play you can teach.

Same for Crosby. I got into many a heated discussion at the Memorial Cup with Knights fans who didn't think he could carry Corey Perry's jock strap. Gee, I wonder how that turned out.

He seems like he is really driven to succeed, judging by his performance after being cut from the World Juniors. He has time to work on his skating, 2009 is a few years away.

By the way, don't you have a volleyball game to get ready for? Go away.

That is true ... Hockey and the OHL has been known to annoint the next one way too early ...
I think he looks great so far but I've got two words for ya ... "Jason Spezza". He's a great NHLer but he's hardly the God send that he was billed only 5-years ago. I would also say remember the drool over Jay Bouwmeester, Daniel Cleary, Sergei Samsanov, etc.?

The love for hockey in Canada creates this need to find the next demigod and I think we all tend to overrate those who have the potential. Of course, then when someone seems to be making good on that promise (that Sidney guy), the bashing and hating begins. Go figure.

Jason Spezza and Rico Fata.

Where did I say he was lousy? He's a great talent, but he's still overrated.

Shame on you for even mentioning Gretzky in your post. When Gretzky was Tavares' age he dominated the World Juniors. Tavares was left scoreless at Team Canada's training camp.

At least come at me with something reasonable.

I watch a lot of Gens games and Tavares is the real deal. Over rated? I dont think so. Gretzky is the one that made him so if he is by saying he is the one that would break his records if anyone in the near future. Anyway. I hate the way the media pushes young kids into the spotlight and labels them. He is a great player and too young to judge being anything but what he is right now. Let him grow and mature and be the player he is. Team Canada was right in cutting him. He has a couple of years to potentially be "the man" in the World Jrs. and he handled being cut (for the first time in his life from anything in his words) really well. As a long time Gens fan and ticket holder I enjoy his game alot. He could stand to pass a bit more but hey, im nitpicking

Know your facts before coming at me. Spezza never scored 45 in junior. Best season was 42 in his final season far from being a 15 year old. Scored 22 as a 16 year old.

Fata scored 43 as an 18 year old. 11 as a 16 year old.

Anything else you want me to tell you? I forgot more about junior hockey than you will ever know. You been hanging around too many locker rooms looking at cock. Bring it on, I will give you lots of facts and details.

You say he is overrated but then who are you? That's your opinion and I also have mine. Aren't you the same person who told me the Russian Juniors would get badly beaten by Canada after I warned people to take them seriously? So that is what I think of your opinions on junior hockey.

Stick to nude volleyball.

What he said.....I had noticed that Tromb had no comment about Taveres' cock.....that is usually his prime focus with Junior Hockey players, which all by itself speaks loudly to his credibility as an OHL "expert"

Way to argue my point homophobe.

Tavares the best player in the Provincial Jr A league as a 13 year old? Heeheheheheheheheh. Talk about no credibility, groupie.

Step aside before I humiliate you again, son.

3 points off. Was Spezza not granted the same status as Tavares was so he could enter the league as a 15 year old?

Fair enough on this point. Point is he was still getting all the groupies just as erect as Tavares is.

Yes, please tell me who played on Mike Cammalleri's line during his peewee year with the Toronto Red Wings.

And you know this how?

How do I know you're not some creepy fan who just checks over the internet for stats? Exactly, I don't

Anytime you want to battle in person, I'm game. That's the only way either one of us can't cheat.

Wow. You're great at stating the obvious.

blueline said:

Yes, and I also explained why they would beat them, and I was right. If you're gonna say I don't know anything based on a prediction, then you're essentially sayiing nobody knows anything, because guess what, everyone gets predictions wrong.

So, the challenge is open to you - If you're ever at a terb party that I'm at, I have no problem challenging you to a junior hockey knowledge quiz.
