does anybody know where I could find the values of old sports cards or comic books? I've got a few that might be valuable (Sergei Fedorov/Allen Pitts rookie cards) and I was hoping to find out what they're worth and maybe where I could sell them.

Stick with Overstreet on the comics, Wizard tends to have a bias that can be unrealistic in the marketplace. The best way to find out is to call a few places. I know the folks at Silver Snail and 1000000 Comix, they can tell you over the phone if they'd be interested in your comics. Both stores should also handle sports cards, but you'd probably be better off with Legends of the Game

Everybody has their own idea of what is old!I never buy anything newer than the early 80's(Gretz,Bourque,Messier RC's & 1st & 2nd yr. issues!)Basically the rest is all crap!Mass produced and found all over the place!I recently dumped over 100,000 cards from 1989-93(the yrs. cases of cards were commonly sold,en mass, and harboured, like a tax shelter,or a blue-chip stock!)for $50.00,just to make room for my decent stuff! If you call the two you listed above as being 'old',then don't waste your valuable time looking for prices. If you must, the SUPERIOR price mag is 'Canadian Sportscard Collector',found in most card shops & Shoppers Drug Mart.Their prices are in Cdn.$,and reflect the Canadian marketplace!Unlike Becketts &/or Tuff Stuff! But you're going to be even more disappointed once you find their value(assuming they are near mint/mint,as most prices are quoted for that grade!)and discover that, probably, nobody wants to buy them!!It's a sad fact, but last year's $1000.00 Insert Card is usually found in this year's Commons Bin!
Too bad you didn't post this last week! The biannual Sportscard & Memorabilia Expo(usually the largest in N/A every year)just finished last weekend near the airport! It won't be back until November now!
Good luck anyways!!!

well I suppose as cards go they arn't that old (the ones I have are all 12-13 years old), but since that was a while ago for me I consider them old. I don't expect them to be worth much, I just don't really want them and I'd like to know their value before I try to sell them. thanks for the mag and place info, I'll have to check them out.

Next to the money pit.
Best Value for your collectible

Buddy,

The best place as mention from above is eBay.

I have personally sold off a majority of my collection through eBay. The sports card market is now into graded cards which commands a premium.

Most Toronto dealers think it is an extra way for grading companies to make more money. What you consider "MINT" may not be "MINT" to another collector. That is why you would pay a third party to grade your best stuff. Dealers think their stuff is always mint. You would NOT find Retail dealers in Toronto carrying graded cards.

Right on! I'm glad that you already posted what I would have been compelled to say! One final point. When it comes to cards and comic books, there are virtually no scarcities of anything since the late sixties. If you think you're "investing" when you buy a card or comic book, you're almost invariably mistaken. Buy only what you like and want to keep!

I agree that Overstreet's Price guide is the standard for comics. You can have some fairly valuable one's post 1960's, but not too many. Again it depends on what you call valuable. You can get a few hundred bucks for some, but most of the truly valuable ones are pre 1960.

Are you a Marvel, DC or 'other' collector? Some of the 'other' category can still collect a nice price.

Do you ever patronize Doug Sulipa's Comic World in Winnipeg? If so, what's it like? Doug runs a nice ad in the Overstreet Comic Book Price Guide.

Comic World

Last time I was there it was a smoke filled warehouse filled with comics as far as the eye could see....

Too bad about all the smoke, though the comics were of course all in sealed bags to protect them.
