Five men arrested on prostitution charges
Female police officers posed as hookers in early-morning sting
Friday May 3, 2002
KITCHENER -- Five men were arrested early Wednesday in a john sting near downtown Kitchener.
The men were charged with communication for the purposes of prostitution in a sting by female police officers posing as prostitutes. The officers were on the street from 7 to 11 a.m.
Waterloo regional police refused to say where the prostitution is occurring.
But according to daily crime reports issued by the force, prostitution often occurs at the corners of King Street and Pandora Avenue, King Street and Cameron Street and King Street and Betzner Avenue.
First-time offenders have the option of attending "john school'' to have the charge dropped, said Staff Sgt. Bill Greer. John school involves education on the impact of prostitution -- from the prostitute's drug addiction to sexually transmitted diseases and the impact on families.
Those charged with a second offence must go through the courts, Greer said.
To borrow from our friends in blue: "Hey, let's be careful out there."
