I had the chance to take in the Dave Matthews show at ACC last night.
In short, what a show. Absolutely perfect.
I am a fan of the band, but not an nutbar about them.
Never the less, i had the chance to go, and I am glad i did.
U2 is still my favourite group, but old dave blew old bono and crew out of the water comparing to U2's last show i saw in Hamilton in September. (Though U2's achtung baby concert in March of 92 at Maple Leaf Gardens is still THE best concert I have ever seen. They were beyond good then)
If you ever haver the chance to take in a Dave Matthews show, do it. They are a very interesting sound and a refreshing talent compared to 99 percent of the shit that is coming out in record format these days. (I have been disappointed that there is no real new excitment coming out these days). Dave uses guitars, banjos, mandalins, violins, saxophone, clarintets, pianos, and god knows what else to come up with this totally unique sound.
Anyway, I don't know the names of the guys in the band, but the violin player is this incredibly talented guy who just seems so into his playing. You can tell from his face that he is doing what he was born to do. How fortunate for him that he can be so in love with his art and make money at it too. The sax / clarinet player was also at the top of his form. The whole band was pumped to the max.
Great show.
As an aside, i was definitely one of the older fans there (30's). Largely a teenage / early 20's audience. (Lots of spectacular eye candy with lots of bare mid drifs, spectacular firm breasts, etc. for those who are wondering)
Aparently, they have an almost grateful dead like cult following.
I can see why. They are playing tonight in ottawa, and if someone was to say to me, "hey, you wanna go", I probably would.
